I did not sleep at this hotel, but I did consider this hotel for an event (reception), as it would've allowed for out-of-town guests to have a nice place to stay at the same place as the event. The photos looked really nice, the hotel rates were low, and in online talks with the manager, he offered what seemed like a great rate for their event space, so I went to check it out.
However, as soon as I drove onto the property it looked dirty, isolated, and dingy, almost like it was abandoned property. When I went in, it was clear that the lobby was being remodeled, which was fine. However, there was a lady lounging in the lobby who appeared that she was loitering (homeless?) and not actually working there or staying there. The hallway and stairwell seemed dingy.
The good thing about the event space was the huge stockpile of hosting dishes and leftover party decorations in the open closet at the corner of the room. But that was about it for good things. The event room was dirty, with worn and stained chairs, paint peeling off of walls, dirty tables, and frayed and worn carpet. It also smelled "old." There was a bathroom that looked like an old hotel bathroom (tub and all) off to the side, as if it used to be a suite or a couple of hotel rooms with the wall knocked out, and was converted into makeshift "event space."
To top it off, the event space was on the second floor and according to the manager, there is no elevator and so it would not accommodate people with disabilities. This was very important because a few of my event attendees were either wheelchair-bound or had other mobility issues, so having an ADA-compliant event space (which after having attended numerous conventions, conferences, and other events held in hotels of varying levels, I thought ADA-compliant event space at a hotel was standard) was a must. I chose not to go this route, of course.
The manager was nice, and that was appreciated. However, as dirty and unkempt as this place was, I could not imagine having an event there at any price, and I definitely couldn't imagine sleeping there!
