We chose this property for our out-of-town guests for a wedding reception at the nearby Cincinnati Club. While the proximity of the hotel to the reception hall couldn't have been better, I was a bit concerned about some of the things my guests may have experienced during their stay.
For some reason, there was no valet service and the parking garage, while it is technically next door to the hotel, it IS NOT an easy walk to/from the Garfield. Further, if you're planning a wedding reception or similar event, do not let the hotel staff tell you that your guests can "easily walk from the hotel to the reception hall (Cincinnati Club or The Phoenix) without going outside". You might find your guests days later wandering around the seemingly endless and confusing maze, still trying to find your party!
If you do choose this hotel, you might want to make sure that your guests understand that the rooms are clean and spacious, but not necessarily modern. Our suite, where we hosted a pre-wedding get together and a post-reception party, reminded me of something out of the 1980's TV series "Miami Vice". Lots of glass and gold-chrome trim, textured wallpaper and old track lighting. Yet it was certainly large enough to accomodate 30 to 40 party guests.
We also had a little issue with getting some information (a welcome letter) to our guests as they checked in. So if you do something similar make certain that your requests are EXPLICIT and then check up on the front desk staff frequently.
Soooo...bottom line, you get what you pay for. Affordable rooms, friendly staff, little frills
