My fiance and I decided to elope while living in Walla Walla for a year of graduate school. I found Areus on line while looking for unique places to tie the knot. The owners of Areus were amazing and helpful. They opened for us during their off season when usually closed and allowed us full usage of the grounds for our small and simple ceremony. It was the perfect place for amazing pictures. The other reviewers are missing the point of Areus I think. This is a 'getaway' spa. There are NO amenities, no phone, tv, internet etc because it is meant to be a place of tranquility and solitude. Bring a book! If you are looking for a place to rejuvinate your mind, body and spirit then this is the place for you.
They offer a beautiful breakfast and made sure we had foods on hand that we enjoyed. David arranged our catered dinner for us from a local restraunt and served us our wedding night meal. One draw back would be that you would have to go into town for other meals, unless previously arranged with the owner.
We were there during off season so we had full run of the place and were the only guests for the weekend. We loved that we were left to our own devices. David showed us how to use the amenities, such as the dry sauna and the soaking tubs, then left us on our own. We appreciated this immensly.
I have to agree with the comments regarding the floors. They are not comfortable for bare feet, slippers or warm socks are a good idea. The rooms are sparse in a zen like way. They are simplistic, clean, and uncluttered. We especially appreciated the fresh cut lillies and roses in our suite and around the common rooms.
I highly recommend Areus for a get away destination. It was the perfect place for us to feel connected to one another while leaving behind all the stresses of everday life. David was high energy and very accomodating. I think he would do his best to meet any special requests if they were made.
One last note. We stayed in the suite for our honeymoon. It was beautiful inside and out. You wake up in the morning looking out over rolling hills as far as the eye can see. It is a little pricey but for our purposes well worth it. I would recommend Areus for a soul reviving trip to any one who asks!
