SUCKED... We evacuated from Hurricane Ike on September 12, 2008. Not one day has went by since we checked out that I don't think about how "ripped off" I felt. If I had known these proprietors lives were in such a shamble, then I would not have checked in.
First of all, there are no curtains on the windows and the biggest window was in the bathroom right by the toilet. We stayed in the attic, which the kids loved because of all the toys that were kept up there (and closets of old clothes). Plus, there was a door that led to a room that we had no idea where it led. I stuck a piece of paper in the keyhole. I didn't know what was on the other side...and the lock was not on our side, So I put something in front of the door. We should have checked out, but the original owners were not there to check us in or out...some friend of the granddaughter's checked us in and she pretended to be the granddaughter. Just plain stupid and weird.
Secondly, even though we didn't stay the second night because I wasn't risking it, we were charged for the entire night ($124) and on top of that, charged $20 for the children, plus the $50 pet "deposit" that was NOT returned. She didn't even check the room before we checked out to see if our pet made a mess, which I know he didn't...why? because I didn't sleep that well!!! There was an ambulance outside and her teeny dog kept barking at our door. Just because a prior guest with their own "zoo" (according to Shirley) stayed there doesn't mean everyone else has to pay for that person's mess. Should I mention the mangy dog on the front porch? Yes, it had the mange...she admitted it. I then immediately directed both of my children to the bathroom sink to scrub their hands.
Thirdly, ill-hearted people take advantage of others' unfortunate situations by overcharging because their feeble minds assume that the government is going to reimburse during a National Disaster (like a hurricane or tornado). She told us that she was charging us for the second night because we could file it with FEMA. She wanted to be sure we were "filing it with FEMA". I guess that made her mind feel a little more less guilty knowing that we would all be paying for it in a round about way. Is that why we're taxed to death? Idiots who perform like this?
Finally, I was so discombobulated from all of the criminology the female innkeeper was throwing out there (trust me it was OUT THERE), that I couldn't get my children out of there fast enough. I would go into detail about the unfortunate incident that happened that night, but it's too personal for the proprietors. I felt like I was sucked into a black hole. As a matter of fact...Vicksburg was sad in general. I feel sorry for those people and I'll never complain about my hometown again!
