We stayed at Island Colony hotel expecting a cheap hotel, because we live in the islands and know that for the price we were paying this was in no way going to be the Four Seasons.

What we were expecting is that it would be at least clean, possibly like Super 8 at least, which it wasn't.

Here is the low down on our stay:

-The carpet was filthy - My son spillt some juice on the floor and when I cleaned it up with one of their white towels it turned the rag black.

-It had a kitchet in the room and everything was just sticking and you could see grime in the corners in lots of places and none of the cabinet doors in the kitchen would stay shut so we had to put spoons through the handles to keep them shut.

-The shower was super old and was so clogged that we had to shut the shower off mid shower so the water didn't overflow out of the bathtub and the shower head sprayed everywhere.

-Even the alarm clock, which we were not using would just randomly make some kind of buzzing crackling sound during the night for no apparent reason.

- The windows whistled loudly in the living room when the wind blew, which was pretty much all night and the A/C was the window mounted style which was really loud.

- Our room was right next to the trash shoot, watch out for that too.

I did like that they had a small little store in the building that made it very handy to get a couple of things really quickly.

If you cannot stand the noise of traffic, and air conditioner. Think twice about this hotel. We had to sleep with ear plugs in every night. Room needed much updating, but for the price we did not expect much. Fan in bathroom did not work. room was clean, the maid did a good job. Pool is nice, but they do not have towels on the same floor as the pool. Very strange. Had to take 2 different elevators to get them. A nice large Lannia, overlooking the canal which I liked. Close to restaurants and shops.

We spent three nights at the Island Colony. Our room was older, but clean and comfortable. We had a small kitchenette that we didn't use on this trip, but would in the future. Large lanai had beautiful view of Diamond Head, the canal and golf course and the ocean! Seaside avenue will take one right into the heart of everything. It appears they are doing a lot of upgrades. All new pool deck, updated carpet and redone elevators. Staff was friendly and hotel had 24 hour security. We will stay here again!

Clean, older hotel, close to beaches, friendly staff, overall good value
