This hotel is usually clean and inexpensive. The glass doors to balcony are not insulated accoustically, so the rooms will transmit all bus car and siren sounds. I travel often and this was my 4 th time through this hotel and I had a dispute about a room charge, I had prepaid. In the attempt to resolve it, I was continually interrupted by the security gaurd who was attempting to help at the front desk. After completing this process and going up to my room I was forced to answer a phone that would not stop ringing, it was the security gaurd from the front desk attempting to explain to me how I was rude and harrassing "them", I was flabbergasted. How it it the security gaurd who was attempting to help do another persons job has the right to call repeatedly to my room and scold me?
I wrote it off to ignorance, and after making plans with a collegue, I went down stairs to make a formal complaint to the front desk person. I plainly stated how unprofessional and unwanted the phone call to my room was and how I felt the issue had nothing to do with the security gaurd, Warren, who continually interrupted in a most inflammatory and confrontational manner. At no time did I resort to yelling, abusive language or curse at either the person, the one I was addressing or the buttinski security gaurd. The situation escalated when I was not provoked by his advances, and he began accusing me of verbally abusing "them". I was so taken aback by this. He then threatend to call the police on me for harrassment, I responed "do what you think you must", not wanting to play this childish game anylonger. He called 911 and exclaimed that I was out of control and verbally assaulting them. I waited for the police officers to arrive, less than 3 minutes. The police officer walked right in offering his hand and greeting him, "Warren". I knew this had to be a common place for the police and I supposed this was Warren's way of exercising the little power he had. Anyway, I quitely went up stairs, got my bags and was escorted to the curb after Warren tried to have me sign some paper, I refused, getting a digital photo taken with out consent. I had to pay out of pocket for another room and at this point have still not been reimbursed.
The large company I work for has assured me that we will not be using the Waikiki gateway Hotel again. Please be careful if you choose to use this hotel, apparently thier customer service skills are extermely rudimentary, and the staff is very conflict oriented.
Room Tip: any room overlooking the park will be quieter, as the buildings reflect the traffic sounds. The high...

I am sorry to hear about your experience with one of our personnel at the front desk. Since we are such a small hotel, we encourage cross training across our departments and those tasks often overlap to provide better service and efficiency to our guests. Though it does not happen often with our security staff, they are all trained with the Front Desk operations. It appears this situation was a misunderstanding with a deposit issue for the reservation. I apologize if this wasn’t clearly explained. We have discussed this issue with our staff and will be better prepared next time around. Again, we appreciate your constructive comments and will learn from them so that we will be a better host to you guests in the future. Aloha.
