“Get a deluxe ocean view room!”

The Aston Waikiki Beachside Hotel (not be be confused with its sister, the Aston Waikiki Beach Hotel), was a wonderful place to stay for the money we paid. It is across the street from the beach, which was nice. I paid the few extra dollars to have a Deluxe Ocean View room (a room on the top few floors facing the ocean) and I was so happy to have made that decision. We were on the 12th (top) floor and the view was fantastic. Good things: great view, great location, bathroom looks like it has been remodeled in the last five years, clean room, nice big balcony, and a friendly staff. Not-so-good things: No pool (that's ok because there is an ocean across the street), one very small elevator (but you never have to wait very long), old looking room (but it was clean), the television was a 13" Zenith straight out of 1989 (but it worked and had cable), the A/C system was loud (but we didn't turn it on too often, we just opened the door), and if you get any other room but the deluxe ocean view, I am afraid that you would have a not-so-good experience. If you don't get a view of the ocean, stay at a cheaper hotel that is not right on the ocean.
I would definitely book this hotel again if I ever decide to go back to Honolulu.

Room Tip: Get a room on the top few floor with an ocean view.

“5-star Waikiki Views”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 January 2012

Husband and I spent our first night on Oahu here and it was awesome. I had booked the economy room, but was upgraded to 12th floor ocean front. We live in rural northern California, so the lights and sounds and hustle-bustle on the street below were a treat. The street below NEVER slept. The room itself was small, but adequate and comfortable. Of the 3 Aston properties in Waikiki, this may be the best views of beach and Diamond Head (it certainly has the best price). We enjoyed watching the moon over the ocean from our Lanai. We both woke several times during the night to take in the scene and the tropical air. In the morning we were awakened by the birds on the large Banyan tree below our window. We went for coffee at a nearby Seattle's Best and checked out the sights, swam,...
If you are OK with a $300 view from a $100 room, than this place is for you. It was clean and the staff pleasant. Valet Parking was easy enough, but cost another $22. The tiny elevator was a trip to yester-year. They say the hotel was built in the 1960's, but seemed older. Charming, but not without cosmetic blemishes.

Room Tip: The higher the better!

“A Wonderful View”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 January 2012

My daughter and I stayed at this hotel for four days before boarding a cruise. Hotels in Honolulu are expensive so one important advantage of this hotel is that it is fairly reasonably priced. The second advantage is its location right across the street from the beach; it is diagonally across from the hop on hop off and other touring buses and it is very close to a major shopping area. The hotel itself is fairly small, has no restaurant or breakfast room and no internet in the rooms. There is internet service in the lounge downstairs. The problem with breakfast is that the closest places are an Egg restaurant which has long line ups in the morning and a McDonald's! We were in a double twin bedded room which was very small. The bathroom was also quite small but the air conditioning worked. There is only one elevator and it too is very small. The staff is very pleasant and most attempted to be helpful but my feeling was that some of them lacked the information that tourists need.

The big advantage of this hotel however is its price and its location; and directly facing the hotel is a very large Indian Banyon tree which is host to about a thousand birds who arrive between 5:30-6 pm to roost for the night and awake at about the same time in the morning. The rooms have small balconies which were very useful not only for the beautiful view but also for the bird activity in this gorgeous tree.

So if you are looking for a fairly basic hotel without any special amenities but with a view and special birds, the Aston Waikiki BeachSide is a good bet.

Room Tip: Make sure to get a beach ocean view and on a high floor for the best views.

“First appearances can be decieving”

We went to Waikiki for the first time on our 40th wedding anniversary and when we got in at 12am we took our rental car to the Aston Waikiki Beach hotel where we attempted to check in - but alas they had no reservation for us - checked with the Beach side and there we were so went over a block or two and checked in there - the first appearances were very disappointing , tiny room , tiny tv, worn furniture and the look of a beat down 30's or 40's style formerly grand hotel - we had a ocean view room on the 8th floor and as such had a lanai - but as with all things the place grew on us - right in the heart of Waikiki , within walking distance of the international market , ABC market right next door, Starbucks down the street and the beach across the street - although the rooms were a bit haggard they were clean ( no bugs ) and the beds were comfy - if they had wifi and a small breakfast it would have made things a bit better but the vale parking was super and we had a beautiful time exploring the paradise that is Hawaii

Room Tip: pay the extra for the full ocean view room on an upper floor
