“Needs reno”

We had an ocean view, 1 bedroom suite in one of the unrenovated rooms for 10 nights and had booked through Waikiki Condo Rentals. Although the view was fantastic (21st floor) the room was dirty, smelly and somewhat in disrepair. It appears that the privately owned units have not been fully renovated, while those owned by Aston have been. The room next door to us had been renovated and was very nice. The front desk wanted nothing to do with us because we were staying in a private suite. We saved the $10/night resort fee but did miss out on coffee, newspaper, daily maid service and a place to store our luggage between checkout time and an evening flight. On the plus side, the private unit did give us unlimited local calls and internet. The location was great, right on the bus route, close to the beach, full kitchen so that we could make our own breakfast and watch the sailors and surfers in the morning. We did not use the lanai as much as expected as it was very windy. If you want a condo with full kitchen, it works well for 2-3 people but insist on a fully renovated room.

Aloha TeenyMc,

Aloha and Thank You for your comments on your recent stay at the Aston Pacific Monarch.
I want to clarify your review of the unit, as you mentioned, is managed by Waikiki Condo Rentals, and not of Aston Pacific Monarch. The staff on property will direct any inquires about the unit to the managing agent, in this case, Waikiki Condo Rentals. This is similar to privately owned units having transient business on the property.
Again, I want to Thank You and do hope you would consider staying in an Aston Pacific Monarch managed unit on your return.

Mahalo

“Can't wait to return!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

Way closer to the beach than we imagined! While the apartment was a little tired it was comfortable and great to be able to do your own thing, whenever! We had a partial ocean view - which also looked over the golf course and up into the mountains - very peaceful! Keiko on reception was just lovely and very helpful. The guy who did the car rentals was also very helpful and found us a great deal for 3 days!

Room Tip: Higher the floor the better the view!

“Great Location!”

My husband and I stayed in Waikiki for our honeymoon. After researching the area and other hotels we went with the Aston Pacific Monarch. The one bedroom suite was spacious and had everything we needed to cook meals. The lanai was a nice touch as well. No need for a car here, you are a 3 minute walk to the beach and restaurants. Rent a scooter, motorcycle or car for the day to explore other parts of the island.

Some complaints that I have is that they put us in an old room with two double beds the first night we arrived. The front desk was very helpful and set us up in an updated room the next day when it was available. The cleaning service is lacking; they come daily to make your bed and replace towels, other than that, you are on your own. Make sure you can find some cleaner for the kitchen table etc.

Overall, I would recommend this hotel, and would absolutely stay here again. Make sure to go to Germaine's Luau. Make a reservation at Dukes restaurant at 6:00 to watch the sunset as well; they have a great salad bar and menu with reasonably priced items.

Room Tip: Make sure you request a renovated room :)

“Amazing view.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 January 2012

We stayed at the Pacific Monarch for 3 days just after Christmas. We had five 1 bedroom suites for our group and were on floors 26, 31, etc. I couldn't believe the views. We paid for only 1 ocean view, and 4 city views, but received all great ocean views. I was really impressed with this. The downside: except for the higher priced "Ocean View" with a King Bed, the other 4 rooms had 2 twins in the bedroom. This was a bit of a surprise and not everyone was pleased. We did exchange one suite for a queen bed and they were accommodating with what was available. They gave us 1 room for late check out which was really helpful on our departure day. The location was very nice. The "renovated" rooms were extremely nice. I viewed an unrenovated room,,, not so nice. If you book direcly with Aston, they generally can guarantee a renovated. At least this is what they told me. And I got what I asked for. Renovations are ongoing, leaving hallways yukky. Garbage shute was broken while we were there and the odor was a little unpleasant in the hallways. No problem with elevators (knock on wood). But they are a little slow. Roof top pool was very plain but the view was outstanding. We really enjoyed our stay. I would have no problem recommending this property.
