“I had a great time here.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 July 2011

First off...for those expecting hotel quality at a hostel price...you are being silly.

This is a cheap, 1 block from the beach, staffed by mellow folks, meet people and have fun kind of place.

I actually ended up staying with my dad for 4 nights and we had a great time, we had to move rooms once (because we booked last minute) but the staff was great, we had late flights out and they were very accommodating with holding our gear for a few hours so we could get a last day in Honolulu without being burdened by luggage.

Nights were a lot of fun, and everyone there (staff and guests a like) were very friendly. It was pretty easy to make new friends to grab a drink with, play poker and just hang out with.

Actually there was one guy who was a bit weird, but I thought it was pretty funny how he was "antisocial" and yet hung out where everyone else was all of the time. (he was a guest, not staff)

Bottom Line: If you want to go to Hawaii, have a bed to sleep in and a place to store your stuff while you go out in Oahu, this is one of the best options around.

P.S. Yes some of the staff looked like they didn't know what a mop was...but the rooms were always clean enough to stay in and the manager was great if there was an issue.

Room Tip: Go for 2nd floor if you don't like stiars!

...the stuff mainly all smoke drugs and sometimes are not able to answer easy questions. if you offer the stuff a free bed for working 3 hours a day be sure that it will be mostly dirty because they don't know the difference between clean and dirty...and they don't care about either. there are much better hostels on oahu...

“Good value, great location!”

I spent 3 nights here in early February. I was in a 4 bed dorm room. They don't separate people by male or female so beware of that if it bothers you. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. On my 2nd night there was a guy in my room that was snoring so loudly I got up at 1 am and asked to switch rooms. They switched me with no problems. Very helpful. They have beach gear you can borrow. There was a man there each morning that made breakfast for less than $4 a plate. The other travelers were wonderful as well. I did think it was quite loud at night, even with the 10 quiet hour. It must not been enforced while I was there. But over all the hostel is great. Wonderful location a block from the beach. Right on the bus lines. I thought it was clean, but the building is a little run down looking, but you are only going to be in the room to sleep so who cares! For the price give it a go!

“Super location, helpful staff, good amenities at a great price”

Excellent location, staff really knows the area and what to suggest based on what you'd like to do. This is a "youth" hostel (be young at heart) so there are 'dorm' accommodations as well as more private rooms, but all share bath with some group. Group kitchen available and sometimes group meals served for nominal charge. Group activities for small charge also organized. Free to borrow lots of beach supplies (mat, chair, snorkle, float, etc.) and cheap towel rental/exchange ($1 for stay). Linens supplied for room.
No A/C but fans and balmy Waikiki weather, but some outside noise of city area. WAY better than a competing hostel down the block, and much better clientel.
Great way to meet other travelers from all over the world.

I loved this place. The staff are friendly and helpful. The atmosphere encourages meeting fellow solo travelers. They arrange trips to other parts of the island, parties and dinners where everyone can get together. I'll be going back again!
