i stayed at the Ohana Waikiki Malia last week for 3 nights and was more than satisfied. it is one of the Outrigger group's boutique hotels and offers no-frills accommodation. it is not the Four Seasons or the Sheraton, so don't complain about full-service. they have no room-service for the fact that they don't have an in-house restaurant, however, the surrounding areas are full of restaurants of every kind. the location of the hotel is in the center of almost everything in Waikiki Beach. the beach is a 10-minute walk and the shopping areas are just about a few blocks away. if you're gay, there are about 3-4 gay bars within a block or two. the staff are courteous and warm.
the bedrooms are well appointed, clean and depending how high is your floor - considerably quiet. do not expect total quietness because the hotel is located in a busy traffic area. if you want quiet, go to the Turtle Beach area. even the nearby Sheraton or Hyatt is quite noisy. the balconies in the Malia Tower are quite smaller in scale but it will accommodate a couple of chairs if you want to breathe some fresh air. the taller tower was just recently remodeled and the beds are still firm. don't complain about mustiness because you are in a tropical island where the humidity can get high at any given hour/day. the bedrooms are always tidied up on a regular basis and the bathroom amenities are always replaced.
restaurants are within walking distance in every category. the International Market Place is just a couple of blocks down if you want free hula entertainment, fast food and souvenir shopping. high-end shopping is in every corner, including the Royal Hawaiian Center. the Ala Moana shopping centre is just a pink trolley away (free). if you're quite adventurous and have good knee strength, Waikiki Beach is walkable and is more fun. if you need to rent a car, just one day will be good to tour the whole island.
overall, this hotel is great for its price and value. i will stay there again on my next visit. i will also recommend it to my friends/family.
Room Tip: the "standard" rooms are located at the newly remodeled Malia Tower.

Aloha !
Thank you for submitting your review on Tripadvisor. We are thrilled to read that you were "more than satisfied." We especially appreciated the comment regarding our staff as it is our goal to make all of our guests feel like family members. We recently renovated our Malia Tower and lobby which does give it a "boutique hotel" ambiance. We also have the popular family-friendly IHOP restaurant which is located in our lobby.
Mahalo for recommending us for our price and value to your friends and family!
A Hui Hou, (until we meet again)
