“Nice place and updated!”

After staying a few nights at the Ohana Waikiki West, we moved over to the Ohana Waikiki Malia. This is another great hotel to stay at if you are on a budget! My wife and I stayed here for three days while in town and found it to be all that we needed. The room and hotel in general were very clean and quiet. Staff was very friendly and helpful! Our room had a mini fridge and a small lanai! We were on the 16th floor and the view was nice (just be careful not to go out on the lanai without either leaving the door open or someone else being in the room; the door may lock itself and you would be stuck!) Some of the pluses include free access to the pink trolley, updated decor, in room internet (hint: bring your wireless router to have an instant wireless connection in your room) and the service. I would definitely recommend to the budget conscious! And keep in mind, you are probably not in Hawaii to be in your hotel/room, get out there and enjoy paradise!

Aloha and Mahalo for submitting your review on Tripadvisor. We are pleased to read your comments regarding our hotel being clean and quiet. We have an awesome staff that is always ready to assist. We recently renovated our Malia Tower and lobby and this year we put in a heated lounge pool and whirlpool spa. We are a much-desired property at a great value.
Thank you again for your helpful hints and positive comments.

“great hotel for its price and value...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

i stayed at the Ohana Waikiki Malia last week for 3 nights and was more than satisfied. it is one of the Outrigger group's boutique hotels and offers no-frills accommodation. it is not the Four Seasons or the Sheraton, so don't complain about full-service. they have no room-service for the fact that they don't have an in-house restaurant, however, the surrounding areas are full of restaurants of every kind. the location of the hotel is in the center of almost everything in Waikiki Beach. the beach is a 10-minute walk and the shopping areas are just about a few blocks away. if you're gay, there are about 3-4 gay bars within a block or two. the staff are courteous and warm.

the bedrooms are well appointed, clean and depending how high is your floor - considerably quiet. do not expect total quietness because the hotel is located in a busy traffic area. if you want quiet, go to the Turtle Beach area. even the nearby Sheraton or Hyatt is quite noisy. the balconies in the Malia Tower are quite smaller in scale but it will accommodate a couple of chairs if you want to breathe some fresh air. the taller tower was just recently remodeled and the beds are still firm. don't complain about mustiness because you are in a tropical island where the humidity can get high at any given hour/day. the bedrooms are always tidied up on a regular basis and the bathroom amenities are always replaced.

restaurants are within walking distance in every category. the International Market Place is just a couple of blocks down if you want free hula entertainment, fast food and souvenir shopping. high-end shopping is in every corner, including the Royal Hawaiian Center. the Ala Moana shopping centre is just a pink trolley away (free). if you're quite adventurous and have good knee strength, Waikiki Beach is walkable and is more fun. if you need to rent a car, just one day will be good to tour the whole island.

overall, this hotel is great for its price and value. i will stay there again on my next visit. i will also recommend it to my friends/family.

Room Tip: the "standard" rooms are located at the newly remodeled Malia Tower.

Aloha !
Thank you for submitting your review on Tripadvisor. We are thrilled to read that you were "more than satisfied." We especially appreciated the comment regarding our staff as it is our goal to make all of our guests feel like family members. We recently renovated our Malia Tower and lobby which does give it a "boutique hotel" ambiance. We also have the popular family-friendly IHOP restaurant which is located in our lobby.
Mahalo for recommending us for our price and value to your friends and family!

“Terrible parking garage experience at the hotel”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012
2
people found this review helpful

We are going to stay at the hotel for 10 days and it had been wonderful until we got woke up tonight by the parking garage guy who asked us to go downstair to pay our $20 parking immediately at 10:30 pm at night. He said that he will charge us $30 more if we don't go down there to pay right away. We were told that it can be charged to our hotel room when we first checked in ( and they have our credit card too).

We called the manager and complaint - he just said that we will take care of it tomorrow.

The parking at this hotel is rid off for $20 per night when the public parking is $8 per night down the street. We only parked at the hotel first night. Having some parking guy called you to wake you up at 10:30 pm for $20 is a joke when we already pre-pay our 10 days hotel in advance.
They can't even figure out how long your car in there. In some way, I am glad that we take care of it right way. Otherwise, we will not know how
bad their parking management is -- they can't get the fee straight. I don't want to go home and get a $200 dollar bills for parking -- the parking that we never park.

When I told the guy that he just woke me up, he was not even sorry and just told me it's only 10:30 pm not 11:00 pm. When I asked him why he can't call us earlier to ask us to pay, he said that he is doing his job.

The hotel is in the good location but it has a funny smell. We heard some noise almost every night.

The consumer serivce is bad. We have never had anybody from hotel to call us at 10:30 pm for $20. The worst consumer service ever. Will never stay here again.

“Great location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

My fiancè and I stayed here for the Pro Bowl and it was great! The rooms were clean and had all the amenities we needed. The IHOP next door is over priced but just walk a block towards the beach and go to a local restaurant - much cheaper. The hotel is in a great location - everything is within walking distance. The pool is the only downside but they don't hype it up.

Aloha and Mahalo for your submitting your review on tripadvisor. It is always great to hear that you enjoyed our property and that our rooms are clean with ample amenities. We have a strong housekeeping department that takes great pride in their work. It brings me joy to read these positive comments during our housekeeping briefings. Thank you for mentioning our location as it has everything in walking distance. Our heated pool and whirlpool spa was just built a few months ago and we are excited to now have this on our property. The pool is small but we were limited on the amount of space to put one in.
Thank you again and a hui hou! (until we meet again)

“Ohana Waikiki Malia, Oahu Hawaii”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 January 2012

I just returned from Oahu, Hawaii. I was there 5 days. My stay could not have been more perfect. The weather, the people, and the accommodations. The hotel that I stayed was the Ohana Waikiki Malia which is an Outrigger property. The customer service was over the top. Ohana means family, and that is exactly what you feel like when you stay there. In fact, they recently renovated the property. And the best part about staying at any Outrigger property, you will not be charged resort fees...ever! You cannot go wrong by staying at any of the Outrigger properties. on a scale of 1 - 10, I give the Ohana Waikiki Malia a '10'.

Room Tip: As a Travel Consultant, I recommend any room at the Ohana Waikiki Malia.
