We arrived at Honolulu airport at 21.30 after a long flight from LHR, UK. We had slept on the plane from LAX, so at least we had our wits about us.
The hotel were expecting us & also knew we had requested a high room facing the sea.
What a stunning view of the Ala Wai Yacht Harbour, awaited us the next morning.
The only downside was that the outdoor 'snack bar'at the hotel had stopped serving breakfasts in February and we had not been informed. Compensation was a coffee shop on site, also a supermarket, but as we only had a tiny microwave and coffee perculator, without any cooking utensils, the microwave was of no use. We decided to explore and found a small pub on the harbor corner, which served very acceptable breakfast specials with 3 eggs!
Our room was cleaned daily and there was laundry room close to the lifts on our floor (22) The corridor carpets looked new, the hawaiian trees were soothing.

The starting point for the Red Line Waikiki Trolley, was outside the hotel.

I would certainly recommend this hotel.

Room tip: Higher floors have the best views and the lifts were never full and we didn't have to wait for one, ever.

My Husband and I have stayed in Hawaii 10 times, and all but the first time, (when we knew nothing much), we have stayed at the Ilikai Hotel. From the room cleaning staff, to the Valet Parking team, the front desk, (thank you Joli), and the General Manager, Terry Dowsett, we have received nothing but friendliness, and respect, and helpfulness. My Husband and I decided on the spur of the moment to renew our vows while we were there this time. Knowing nothing of what we had to do, we decided to ask Terry for his help. He went out of his way (and he is a very busy man), to find us a Minister, and to try and get permission for us to marry at sunset at the Lagoon. He wasn't able to do that for us after trying for a few days, but we found another perfect spot 4 minutes drive away, called Magic Island. From a certain spot, where we renewed our vows, you could see the Hotel in the background, the Lagoon, and all of Waikiki down to Diamond Head. It really was magical. Terry also organised our traditional Hawaiian wedding Leis for us. The rooms are huge, beds huge, (we actually had to get rid of a few pillows so we could meet in the middle) lol !!!! The entertainment on a Friday night downstairs is lovely, the traditional way the torches are lit every night and the conch shell blowing, all adds to the overall atmosphere at this hotel. The gardens and flowers are always well tended to, with the mini waterfalls flowing, and the tree with the lights wrapped around and through it. We made use of this beautiful space in the courtyard to take nighttime shots after we had dinner at Sorento's at the very top of the hotel on our special day. The addition of the coffee shop downstairs was a wonderful idea. They could actually make a proper iced coffee, yay !! We feel as if we are coming home every time we come back to Hawaii, and especially the Ilikai Hotel.

Room tip: If you have a family, try for a room with a kitchen. It makes staying there so much cheaper. The Lagoon side of the hotel gets the morning sun, but the Marina side has the beautiful sunsets.

Clean and comfortable with a friendly staff. We had a high floor with an ocean view that also shared a glimpse of Diamond Head. The room was spacious which made it comfortable for three people.Bathrooms were well worn and a bit outdated but kept clean. Vaccume was not used as well as I would have at home and not at all during the week in the hallways which is a drawback when others track in sand. The hotel has a special elevator for those who are sandy and wet, unfortunately most of the clintele didn't use it which created a mess. The location is a quick walk to most dining and shopping in the area which was good becasue the hotel itself lacked dining options.

My two daughters and myself stayed here for 4 days after a 2 month European tour on the way home. It was the perfect choice for a relaxing stay. The room was really nice with a superb view. The hotel could do with more dining options as these are very limited.

We rented a 2 Bedroom, 2 Bath, Kitchen Suite. It was perfect for the 5 of us. We had 1 King Bed, 2 Queens, and a Sleeper Sofa. The King Bed and the pillows were the best we have had at any hotel. Most hotels make the bed and pillows way too soft and results in neckache/backache. These were just right. The grocery store in the lobby saved us lots of time, and the coffee house downstairs provided our daily bagels & cream cheese breakfasts.
