“Buyer Beware”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 September 2011

Located in the heart of Newport, this hotel is steps from all of the shops, restaurants and nightlife. They have a small parking lot around back and offer a delicous home cooked breakfast with the room. Unfortunately, that is about all the hotel has going for it. The room we stayed in was very small with paper thin walls and didn't have a bathroom attached to it. Our bathroom was down the hall and around the corner. The room next to us had an infant child. We had just purchased a new car prior to the trip and it was hit in the parking lot our second day there. A hotel employee had tried cramming her car back there after the lot was full and caused an accident trying to move it so another guest could get out. The hotel manager did absolutely nothing to compensate us for the anguish this brought us, aside from offering to let us check out late, although we were visibly frustrated and told him how unhappy we were with our stay even up until our car was hit.

“Just loved Melville house”

4 day girls trip. Stayed in room 6. The house was spotless, gleaming hardwood floors throughout and decorated in authentic period of the 1700's right down to the accessories in the rooms. Felt like I was a little girl in the "Ann of Green Gables" bedroom. with the petit point quilt and low windows and the bed was very comfortable, with crisp sheets. Extremely well located in a lovely historic area within walking distance of the ocean on both sides of the peninsula, the cliff walks and shops and restaurants. Andrew and all the staff were extremely accomodating, no ghosts in the house, quiet, great vibes. Secluded little side patio where we enjoyed our wine at night in a lovely litte garden area. Shower was smaller but certainly did the job. Thanks Andrew! I'd definitely return.

Room Tip: Room 6 had a double bed and looked over the house next door not a parking lot or anything.

“Quainy and comfy”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 August 2011

My husband and I stayed here for only one night. We had one of the smaller rooms on the second floor, but it was just fine for us. The room was clean and the place was very quiet.

Like other reviewers have mentioned, it is part of the "family" of inns now. The check-in is in a separate building, but "all the way down the street" is only 3 doors over. It really isn't inconvenient and, in fact, I preferred not to have other guests in and out of the lobby all day and night checking in and checking out.

Breakfast is included, but isn't served at this location. However, all of the inns owned by this management are on the same street and mere seconds away. The breakfast is perfectly fine, and is easily accessed on your way out for the day.

The location is also perfect given the price. We paid a pretty cheap rate for the height of the season and were located only blocks away from downtown Newport and the water.

“Excelent location and great rate”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 June 2011 via mobile

We stayed at this bed and breakfast and it was really good. Great location, good service, walking distance to all entertainment and decent rates. The manager was great, he gave us an upgrade without extra charge. The breakfast was really good too.

“Terrible, No Sleep, You hear everything.”

We stayed on the first floor next to the front door. Room 7. The door opens and closes all night long and when it closes it slams. There was a guy on the second floor locked out of his room. He banged on the door and yelled some girl's name for about 30 minutes until he realized his room was on the first floor. You hear every foot step and every sound. I may be slept for about 3 hours each night before I was awakened. I would try to stay on the top floor and confirm your room has a TV, AC, and bathroom. Would not recommend this to a friend.

Room Tip: Ask for top floor and confirm TV, AC, and Bathroom
