We had orign.ally booked 2 nights here, but both of us were sick & couldn't complete the drive from Quebec City, so we called at the last minute to let them know we would arrive a day late. We knew that we would pay for the missed night, but we didn't have a choice.

We arrived after driving through a nasty rainstorm & when we got to our room were pleasantly surprised to find that we were upgraded to a suite because we paid for 2 nights & only stayed one.

The woman at the front desk (sorry, can't remember her name) was wonderfully helpful. We needed to make a couple of copies & fax a document & she took care of us for no charge.

Because we were sick & because the weather was awful, we ate luch, dinner & breakfast the next morning at the hotel. While not a gourmet restaurant, the food was adequate & reasonably priced for a hotel. Service was friendly & efficient.

Great - location by bridge, excellent parking, convenient to central Newport and coastal walks.
Really great to have central Newport to yourself on an early Saturday morning.
Average - room, service, general atmosphere (but we didn't come to stay in the hotel) breakfast.

I stayed here one night after attending a Salve Regina Hockey game. This hotel is in a great location. Close to all Newport has to offer. Many restaurants and activities close by. Be sure to take time to see the mansions and stroll the streets of Newport. Thames Street has some great shops and restaurants. Overall the hotel is clean and staff very friendly. My room was basic but clean. The beds were comfy. The only drawback was the hot water - it was lukewarm brrrrrr after being at a hockey rink.

This place is average. For close to the same money, first check for availability in the nicer places in Downtown Newport. Two complaints with this place:

1) If you book through a site like Travelocity, they treat you like a red headed step child.
2) I wasted money booking a "Deluxe" room only to find out that deluxe at best western means microwave and mini fridge in room.

Benefits:
Hotel is right next to highway.
