Stayed at the Chanler in the " Block Island " room this past Saturday Jan 28 2012. it was simply amazing. The room was so incredibly nice and the view of the ocean/sunrise was breathtaking. I took my girlfriend for a romantic weekend getaway and the Chanler delivered in every way imaginable. We drank champagne in the the outdoor jacuzzi/sauna and really enjoyed the villa style set-up. It was so private and incredibly gorgeous at the same time. Heated tiles on the bathroom floor, huge shower, and the drapes had a remote control. WOW!... Kudos as well to the super staff including Alison, Julie, Timothy and Chris ( who drove us into town for dinner in style). We had such a great time that we cannot wait to return ASAP..... Chuck M. Booked the gothic room at the Chanler, and could not have been happier. I was afraid that the decor would be over-the-top or embarrassingly cheap, but they did an excellent job with the room. The jacuzzi just steps from the bed made some tough decisions.

The people were friendly, not pretentious at all. Excellent service all around, with everyone striving to make you feel comfortable.

Very expensive, but great for a romantic getaway or a romantic occasion. Went off season (January), but there were still a few restaurants and stores open when we wanted to get out. However, the room was so comfortable and spacious, we rarely felt inclined. That, coupled with their extensive free DVD library at reception made for a very relaxing weekend.

We spent a chilly weekend in January at the Chanler. Our room was lovely and faced the sun rising over the Naragansett Bay each morning. Steps away from the cliffwallk, we were able to walk down to the Breakers ( the Vanderbilt "cottage"), take a tour, and walk back. Just wonderful. The staff was immensely helpful, starting with the valet and bellman who knew exactly who we were as we pulled up to check in. Wait staff were exceptional, especially Teddy. Julie at the front desk showed us around and couldn't be more helpful. Maurice the bartender mixes a perfect drink and tops it off with personality. The food at the spiced pear simply cant get any better. The presentation and flavors were superlative. We'll be back as often as we can.

This is the only hotel my husband and I will stay in when we visit Newport. Each room is decorated in a different period style, so each visit to Newport feels like a new experience. This makes it a unique place and vastly different from the chain hotels in town which are almost as expensive and often damp and uncomfortable. Rooms can be visited on line so there are no surprises when you get there. You get to actually choose the room you want to stay in. They range in size according to price. The Spiced Pear Restaurant is one of the best restaurants in town. All of this is located just steps from the beach and Cliff Walk. Gorgeous views of the ocean are available in many of the rooms.....Stay here!
