My husband & I were planning our second anniversary get-a-way and selected Newport, RI. He had never been while I'd been there a few times. We wanted to be close to downtown but still private, quiet and romantic. I wanted to be close to the mansions because, well, they are so amazing! My husband did some research and decided that he wanted to explore the cliffwalk while we were there. So when we looked here on Trip Advisor and found Beachstone B&B and it seemed to be the perfect solution. From the moment I first spoke with Geralyn it was apparent that she was friendly and gracious. When we arrived after a long day on the road we were so pleased to find that Beachstone is on a quiet street and the home has lovely landscaping that is a bit like a secret garden. Anyway, our room was large and comfortable, a huge bathroom with jacuzzi, and a lttle balcony where we could eat our breakfast and enjoy the morning air and bird songs. Geralyn's breakfasts were amazingly, delicious! The food was simple, but fresh and she'd add just a little extra something that took it too the next level. For example, French Toast with a side of stewed pears with just a dab of fresh berry jam a touch of crushed nuts. Oh my. Did I mention that she delivers breakfast to your room on a tray? So now about the location. If you stay at The Beachstone B&B you will be close the beach, Cliff Walk and most of the Newport Mansions, not to mention Ocean Drive. We were able to walk a short distance to a public beach, we spent an evening there drinking some wine while my husband played guitar...magical. Cliff Walk can be accessed near the same beach entrance though I would not try to navigate this more rugged and dangerous section at night, even without the wine! We rode out bikes to the far end of the walk and locked them there., walked the entire length then retrieved the bikes with the car when we were done. During the several days we were there we used the car very little and enjoyed riding our bikes to get around town. It was only a ten minute or so ride to any of the mansions and many were just a few minutes away and a reasonable walking distance.
Geralyn & Jay have a lovely home and make gracious hosts. You will not be sorry if you choose to stay with them during your visit to Newport, RI.More
