“Not a relaxing stay..safety concerns”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 October 2010

The room was very dirty and the sheets were not clean. The owners were very polite and gave us fresh linens. But the linens did not fix the gaping hole in the bed's box spring, the broken window, (the only means to get fresh air) and graffiti on the bathroom wall. We also had safety concerns. There was a loud party in a room near us. At 3 am a drunk man came to our door and woke us up. The front desk did not answer the phone so we had to deal with the situation ourselves. I am an experinced world traveler and have stayed at many hotels and hostels. This was the dirtiest room I have seen in any country.

“Keep your expectations low”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 October 2010

We stayed at the pineapple inn in Aug. and I"ll give it to the staff that even though it was a minimum 2 night stay they let us stay there for only one night. When we walked into the room and we heard the toilet running. We alerted the front desk about this and they said they would get someone to fix it. The toilet ran all night and into the next day. Also there were tiny ants crawling all over the bathroom floor. We had to bring the pillows and cases back to the front desk because there was old dried blood on them. The front staff person just shrugged and gave us new ones. Other than that the stay was a quiet one at least!

“Didn't feel safe! Stay somewhere else!”

I have traveled a lot and stayed in a variety of rooms. This hotel is pretty low on my list. I didn't feel safe and it takes a lot for me to say that. We brought all our valuable items into the room because there is a crack addict that lives at the hotel and we were afraid he would try to steal from our cars. We were informed that he was just released from jail a few days prior to our stay by his pregnant girlfriend that he sometimes beats. Yes, this is not what I want to deal with on my vacation. Then she asked us for a ride. The cops are at the hotel everynight to deal with this guy. I would highly recommend the motel 6 which is a few mins away and seemed much safer!

“Great Find - for the budget traveler”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 August 2010

I recently traveled to Newport for the Jazz Festival alone so wanted a safe, quiet, budget conscience hotel. As a solo female traveler, I carefully reviewed all the feedback and decided to try this hotel. I found the front desk (owner?) very pleasant and helpful. When he found that I was alone, he offered to put me close to the office but I opted a bit further down. He also recommended a Brewery restaurant close by that had great food. The no frill room was nothing fancy but clean and safe. The deadbolt did not work from inside and I had to turn the light bulb on the side lamp to make it work but for one night, it was fine. It was quiet and certainly fit my budget. I would stay here again and would recommend it.

“I would stay there again.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 July 2010

We got off to a bit of a bad start (partially my fault). I'd booked a smoking room because that was all that was available, but the location was perfect for us because of it's proximity to the Naval Base. The room smelled horrid!!! When I took a shower the curtain wasn't long enough for the "shower stall" (no bath tub), so when I was finished I had to use the two towels provided to mop up the mess from the water that was EVERYWHERE in the bathroom. Obviously this had been happening for a while, as the wall was already damaged from the water.

HERE'S THE GOOD NEWS. I went to the office and complained in the morning, and although they wouldn't have a non-smoking room available until Monday (this was Saturday morning) they came in that day and changed out the shower curtain saying "no one had told them"....fair enough.

On Monday they switched our room for us and it was very nice.....and it didn't smell!!! This one also had a regular bathtub too, so no curtain issue. We didn't have a remote for the TV in the new room, but management was quickly responsive. I believe the manager (owner?) lived behind the office, as he seemed to always be there, and he was always pleasant (if not cheerful) and incredibly responsive to anything I asked for ...and I think I was a bit of a pain.

TIPS IF YOU STAY HERE: Bring a hair dryer and expect interNOT. (I had good connectivity in the first room which was close to the office, but the second room was farther down, and I couldn't connect up.)

It's not the Ritz, but it's a nice place to stay (we were there for a week) It was clean and the staff was helpful, responsive and friendly. Kudos to the manager and all the staff.

Ellen
