“Lovely short stay”

We were in Newport for just one night and the Mill Street Inn was a great central spot to stay. The suite was very large with a lovely living area, seperate bedroom and new bathroom and the 3 of us were very comfortable with the double bed and double pull out sofa. It was very clean and in a fab location minutes from the harbour and Newport's night life. I was also pleasantly surprised with the breakfast (I never expect too much from a continental) but there was lots of choice and very good coffee! I would definitely recommend staying here.

“A Quiet Hotel with Good Service”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 October 2011

The hotel is in an old mill that has been remodeled into an all suite hotel. Our room was on the first floor and my wife when entering the living room for the first time said it was like a cell. Both the living room and bedroom had high ceilings and only a small casement type window that looked out onto the parking lot. Lighting in the living room was not the greatest either. The bathroom was small but adequate but did not have a bathtub only a shower. The bed was quite comfortable and the suite was very quite even thought the hotel was almost full each night we were there. The A/C was quite adequate with temps being between 75 to 80 during our visit, but it did leak onto the living room carpet occasionally.
The included continental breakfast was nothing unusual and included the usual bread and bagels for toasting and a good selection of cereals as well as some fresh fruit. Each afternoon they put out freshly baked cookies which were quiet good. Covered parking and internet are included.
The staff were friendly and helpful always asking if there was anything we needed.
Our biggest complaint was that the sleeper sofa and two chairs in the living room were very uncomfortable to sit on and caused your back ache after a while. Also, there was no desk to place your computer on so you had to sit on the uncomfortable sofa and then lean over the coffee table to use your laptop. For the money there has to be better choices.

Room Tip: Be mindful there is no elevator so if stairs are a problem ask for a room on the first floor. Also...

“great service, poor accommodations”

We recently traveled to the Mill Street Inn as a getaway for a girl's weekend. The service was wonderful; Douglas and Justin couldn't have been friendlier or more accommodating. However the site advertised a king sized bed and sleeper sofa. While the king bed was comfortable, the sleeper sofa was completely unusable. It was extremely uncomfortable and with 3 of us in the room, I ended up having to pad the sofa (folded up) to sleep.
There was mold in the shower, and the lighting in the room was dim, at best. The temperature was difficult to maintain at a comfortable setting. We had it on the coolest setting (64 F) and with the overhead fan running, it was still too warm to be comfortable.
The breakfast was nice, the location was great, and as I stated the staff was very friendly.
However, having rented 2 rooms for the 5 of us, we all agreed that we wouldn't return.

“Exceeded all expectations!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 September 2011

My wife and I were looking for a unique hotel located near the center of Newport. The Mill St. Inn popped up as one of the choices. The location off the main streets as well as the duplex style units was very appealing to us. We booked this hotel as a last minute offer so we got a very good price considering it's location. As we pulled into the parking garage below the building we entered through the lower level. Doug came right down from the desk to greet us and immediately brought our bags up to the check-in desk. He then walked us to our unit (the townhouse unit with a private deck). He gave us a quick run through of the unit's amenities and then bid us a good day. We were EXTREMELY happy with our unit. I wasn't sure what to expect but I was blown away with the setup. You enter into a nice lounge space and then proceed up a cool red spiral staircase that leads to the bedroom and private deck.

The location was fantastic too. A few blocks up a slight hill and you reach Bellvue St while a few blocks down the hill and you're right on Thames St and the wharf area. It was such an ideal location for us. We dined at a few different restaurants in the area and brought the leftovers back. One of the nights we were in the mood to eat the leftovers vs eating out. The dining area at the lower level is generally closed in the late evenings but David the evening person was more than happy to open it up for us so we could use the microwave. We must have troubled him at least a few times during our stay (more towels, bath products, random questions, etc.) but he was more than happy to accomodate us.

During a few mornings and the day of the checkout, we encountered Siren. I know other members spoke well of her and they were 100% correct. She was extremely friendly and definitely knowledgeable of the area (I believe all 3 folks we interacted with were). Siren gave us more tips about what to do during the different seasons as well as suggests we leave the car during checkout while we finished touring the area. My wife and I were definitely impressed and will be back. Doug, David and Siren deserve kudos for their top notch service!

Just one note to travelers is that there are no elevators in this hotel. It didn't stop my wife and I but for people in wheelchairs or folks that have trouble walking it could present a slight challenge.

Room Tip: We stayed in the townhouse suite. It had a nice private balcony. I'd recommend looking for last...

“Lovely and well appointed, great location!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 August 2011

We just returned from two long weekends at the Mill Street Inn (for the Newport Folk and Newport Jazz festivals) and had a lovely and memorable stay there. The staff was exceptional – helpful and courteous, even sorting through train and bus schedules when one of our party had to leave early and then printing google maps to various destinations. In particular, Siren Brandon at the reception desk was always engaging and pleasant. Upon hearing how much we enjoyed the patio, she rearranged our room reservations so that for the following weekend, we could keep the patio suite. She was also a great source of information for activities in the area and avoiding high traffic routes to the festivals. I had such a nice stay there that I insisted my parents, who are about to take a week vacation in Newport, change their reservations from a hotel on Goat Island to the Mill Street Inn. In addition to the lovely staff, the hotel is charming, located about 2 blocks from the main drag of town, Thames Street, up a gentle hill so you are looking over the waterfront. You really feel as if you are part of Newport’s history staying at Mill Street, weaving your way along the lovely streets, as opposed to some of the larger, more impersonal hotels in the area. Breakfast is included and served on the rooftop (weather permitting) and consists of fresh berries, toast, oatmeal, wonderful granola, and yogurts; a health-conscious but delicious spread. The suites are very comfortable, with the softest mattress topper I’ve ever slept on and plenty of room to spread out. The Mill Street Inn is a real gem and made visiting beautiful Newport even more special.
