“Friendly, hardworking staff but worn out , tired hotel.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 January 2012

I stayed at the downtown Holiday Inn while taking part in the annual Buffalo Garden Walk. I had stayed at a Holiday in the burbs in 2010 and wanted a more central location. I booked this Holiday Inn primarily because of the location. I could just walk from the hotel to many of the gardens on display. That was a big plus.
I was initially happy with the room. However, when I went into the bathroom, I saw a long hair or two in the sink. I cleaned up the sink. Then I saw one or two more on the bathroom floor.I went to unpack and there was a broken nail(false) in the drawer along with crumbs etc. So I cleaned that up also.Later on I tried to open the window and couldn't . I called the front desk. The handyman came up and opened the window-implying that the windows were off the rollers. The chair was very comfortable. But I felt as if it was grimy-so sat on a towel while sitting and reading etc. Finally, I dropped something on the floor and bent down to get it and right by the lamp saw two or three pills(Advil).
As you gather, this room had not been properly cleaned. I did not post this review before since I was waiting for a reply from Holiday Inn re: my complaint. I have followed up my initial
complaint but to no avail.
I am disappointed because I thought I had found a good place to stay (2011) and for future trips. But, due to lack of response, I'll have to look for other accomodation this year.
Note:
The elevators were not centrally located. They were at the end of the hall. Keep this in mind if you want be close to an elevator.

“hotel is okay, but i think they hate the bills”

I was booted out of this place a year ago. Yeah..my brother and I were coming back from a night of boozing on Allen St. and some canadiens asked us if we wanted to continue partying, the answer was yes, absolutely. Apparently the canadiens had already been warned to keep it down ( we didnt know ) so they booted them out, and we said sorry..look, we will just go to our room and go to sleep since we hadnt been aware of the noise complaint. The little nerd at the desk refused and kicked us out, he even called the cops which was stupid because it wasnt that big of a deal. I was wearing a Jim Kelly jersey and a fake mullet and he was angry with this. He even insulted my fake mustache in which I replied by insulting his overall weakness as a man, he looked like he had spent the last 5 years in a basement playin dungeons and dragons. I wouldnt take this review too serious because i do remember the hotel being clean, and they were kind of nice staff, except the nerd. Basically dont be too loud here, but if ur looking for a chill spot with a good location its okay. I hope u at least get a laughing picturin a drunk guy with a fake mullet and mustache getting thrown out ...haha

Room Tip: dont wear bills stuff or a fake mullet to this hotel, they hate mullets and the bills. Try a combove...

“Excellent service from a great hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 December 2011

I stayed for 4 nights this December for a family get together. After reading some of the previous reviews I was somewhat worried. However I am pleased to say that I was very pleasantly surprised.
The public areas of the hotel have clearly been recently renovated, and are very nice.
Our room was very nice and spacious, although a bit tired in the decor, it had all the mod cons and extremely comfortable beds with lovely linen. The bathroom was nicely furnished and very clean.
We received excellent service from all the hotel staff we came into contact with including, reception, bar, coffee bar, cleaning staff.
I would certainly recommend this hotel to friends and family and will stay again when/if I am back in Buffalo!

“Convenient stay and friendly staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 December 2011

I stayed here recently for three nights. Hotel is very convenient to everything I wanted to do in Buffalo. Staff was very friendly and welcoming. The lobby is not particularly large but is comfortable and the restaurant was quite nice. I would stay again.

“Tired and Worn - In Need of Renovation”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 December 2011

Traveled to Buffalo to catch a Sabres hockey game with my son and surprisingly "won" this property via Priceline – 3 block walk to the subway station to get to First Niagara Arena. The property is rated a 3 star - no way - 2 star is closer to reality. I'll discuss that in greater detail at the bottom,

Outside appearances are good. The property is on a fairly busy street, but there are some older homes across the street that gives the location a comfortable urban feel.

Check-in was efficient. The staff is pleasant. The lobby area is small and the 1st level contains the restaurant and lounge area. The elevators are extremely slow and we ended up taking the stairs as they were quicker than waiting for an elevator.

The room was in need of a redo. The most positive point of the room was the beds, which are comfortable. Otherwise, the room was tired and dated. The furniture was in need of update. The bathroom door would not close; you could clearly hear conversations while in the bathroom. The walls were thin as you could hear the television and talking from the adjacent room as well as you could hear road noise. Simply, the room was not inviting and the property needs to be renovated. You can not keep on painting and recarpeting - the building is worn. I have stayed in several Holiday Inns over the past year and as a whole, I have been pleased with what I have seen. The HI overall image and accommodations are fresh and upbeat. This property is not on board. If I was traveling with my family, I would have checked out after viewing the room. Since it was my son and I, our tolerance was greater.

While we where there, the hotel was housing several traveling athletic teams and a bus tour. There was hall noise and I felt I was back in a college dorm. Not what I wanted at 11 o'clock in the evening.

We ate breakfast at the hotel's restaurant - good value and filling. We also utilized the complimentary shuttle to and from the airport - quick and efficient as well.

As noted, I "won" the property via a Priceline bid. If I paid more, I would be more concerned with the value for my money (I still am, but since I paid much less than half the posted daily rate, my expectations were perhaps not as high). The focus of my trip was a sporting event and all I wanted was a place to sleep. This property is supposively in the same class as the "H" hotel which is a few blocks down the street and well as the "AM" hotel downtown. This property is in dire need of a redo. Winning this property has convinced me to not use Priceline too.

Spend the extra $$$ and stay at a hotel that is newer.
