I wonder if the hotel has come under different ownership since the last reviews on TA. My room was clean and everything was in working order. The bed was very comfortable and the sheets and towels smelled fresh and were sparkling white.
The wifi is free and I was able to get work done in my room.
The Korean family that runs the hotel is friendly and accommodating: I was able to bargain them down from the $77 Hotwire rate to $50 for a Sunday night.
The hotel is on the east end of Route 66, not terribly convenient if you want to be closer to downtown, which is 3 miles away, but it suited me fine since I was just wanted to be near Hwy 89. I liked the place so much I returned a week later for 2 nights at the end of a work trip around Arizona.
The pool is small, but it was perfect to cool off on a hot Arizona afternoon. And the view--of ponderosa pines and chirping tree frogs and mountains--made for a nice oasis in the city.
I had the AC on and it effectively drowned out the sounds of the train and the bar next door, The Museum Club--a Route 66 landmark and very atmospheric. And I loved the attached restaurant, the Railroad Cafe. Great buckwheat pancakes and huge homemade-style dinners for less than $10.
All in all, a great place at a great price. I would recommend this HoJos.
