“Bearable for a night”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 December 2011

Usually Howard Johnson motels are clean and decent for a night so I thought this was a safe bet. I did arrive late so I probably got stuck with one of the last few rooms but despite requesting a no-smoking room, my room reeked of cigarettes...the cleanliness level just wasn't up to par with other HoJo motels I've stayed in...it is, however, one of the cheapest rooms in Flagstaff...should be bearable if staying for one night...

“I will not stay there again”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 October 2011

One positive thing I can say is that we didn't see any bugs. The neighborhood is of dubious character (quite a few red lights), the safety is uncertain due to the dents in all the steel room doors and bullet hole in bathroom window. At 9:30 pm the desk clerk had to check and see if the room was ready, yet. I wounder if they rent rooms by the hour.

“nasty place to stay”

Dirty, Front desk clerk unhelpful. Don't stay here. Felt like a "hooker" hotel. Fall of 2011

“Horrible dirty smells etc etc etc”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 September 2011

Stayed here for one Sat night in July on the way back from a long trip to Utah. we were tired and hungry. Worst hotel EVER. Mistake was I did not check the room out before paying the money upon arrival. The floor was filthy - the room smelled, only some of the lights worked, lamps shades were torn, dirt on the wall etc etc. No wash cloths in the bathroom, mattress was old and parts where hanging from the bottom of them. This room should have been condemned. Owners are an asian couple who pretend they don't speak english well but they knew how to take the money and not answer the phone when we called the front desk. Did not feel safe -lots of peeps staying there looked scary. This was a horrible experience and when I complained upon check out the person behind the desk did not care about what I was saying. Do not stay here no good place-

Room Tip: Do not stay here stay far far away

“Great stay!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 August 2011

I wonder if the hotel has come under different ownership since the last reviews on TA. My room was clean and everything was in working order. The bed was very comfortable and the sheets and towels smelled fresh and were sparkling white.

The wifi is free and I was able to get work done in my room.

The Korean family that runs the hotel is friendly and accommodating: I was able to bargain them down from the $77 Hotwire rate to $50 for a Sunday night.

The hotel is on the east end of Route 66, not terribly convenient if you want to be closer to downtown, which is 3 miles away, but it suited me fine since I was just wanted to be near Hwy 89. I liked the place so much I returned a week later for 2 nights at the end of a work trip around Arizona.

The pool is small, but it was perfect to cool off on a hot Arizona afternoon. And the view--of ponderosa pines and chirping tree frogs and mountains--made for a nice oasis in the city.

I had the AC on and it effectively drowned out the sounds of the train and the bar next door, The Museum Club--a Route 66 landmark and very atmospheric. And I loved the attached restaurant, the Railroad Cafe. Great buckwheat pancakes and huge homemade-style dinners for less than $10.

All in all, a great place at a great price. I would recommend this HoJos.
