“Very nice, but not the best we've seen”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 January 2012

Conifer House has a lot of nice qualities, but we noticed a couple of drawbacks too. We stayed in the Ponderosa. The room was very clean, lovely, and large enough so we never felt cramped. I was disappointed that the king size bed did not have a pillow-top mattress. For me, the bed was too hard and uncomfortable. I recommend that the proprietors invest in a quality pillow-top mattress; pretty much expected in the high-end B&B’s. Another disappointment was the shower. The shower curtains hung from makeshift PVC pipe forming a circle over the shower. Also, the water pressure was weak and the shower was cramped; while washing my hair, my elbows continually rubbed up against the shower curtain. However, the Jacuzzi tub was very nice.

Conifer House is located in a very quiet residential neighborhood – No street noise what-so-ever. We didn’t even hear a dog bark. Our main reason for visiting Flagstaff was to ski Snowbowl. The B&B was conveniently located right off Hwy 180.

The breakfast/main gathering room was nicely decorated for Christmas and provided a festive atmosphere. Saturday breakfast was exactly what you would expect and anticipate from a quality B&B. Sunday breakfast was pancakes. Good, but I can fix pancakes myself. I was hoping for something different.

Lauren is a very gracious lady and she went out of her way to make us feel welcome.

All things considered, I really don't feel the value of our stay was worth $175.29 per night.

Room Tip: The Ponderosa does not have an adjacent room. Very quite.

Sorry that we did not respond to your review earlier. Thanks for your input about the bed. We have just ordered some "down alternative" featherbeds for the tops of some of our beds and will see if that fits the bill as well as a conventional pillowtop mattress. Thanks also for pointing out the problem with water pressure in the shower -- we took out the water-saver feature and now the water will come out quite forcefully. Not too hard though -- I have stayed in hotels where the water actually stings your skin! FYI -- the shower curtain rod is actually made out of copper -- we had to be creative as we looked online and everywhere else and couldn't find one that would work with our shower's configuration -- not glamorous, but it works. We are sorry that you were disappointed in the pancakes -- I don't remember exactly what kind I made, but it was probably the Pumpkin Spiced pancakes since you stayed around the holidays. It is a real challenge to please every guest -- especially when food is involved -- but we try our best and I do try to serve something completely different each day of a guest's stay for variety. We hope that you will give us a try again sometime in the future -- I won't do pancakes! ;-}

“Best B&B we've ever stayed at!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 November 2011

We stayed here for 5 nights and it was just like home-from-home. The attention to detail in the rooms (we had the Ponderosa room) was fantastic and the breakfasts were delicious and really set you up for the day. Lauren was a great host and really looked after her guests.

The location was quiet but not too far away from restaurants etc. It was also a great base for all the places we visited and the jacuzzi bath was a real blessing after a 12 mile hike! As were the little treats that Lauren left in the room each day.

We couldn't recommend this B&B high enough. If you do visit Flagstaff, this is definitely the place to stay.

Room Tip: The Ponderosa room is not attached to any other guest rooms (only the guest service room/office) so...

“A warm and welcoming B&B”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 October 2011

We stayed at this B&B for two nights. The room was very tastefully decorated and no detail was missed. There is a pretty courtyard between the rooms where you can sit and read. Drinks and snacks are available to guests throughout the day. Breakfasts are not to be missed they are truly delicious.

“Honeymoon Stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 October 2011

My wife and I stayed at the Conifer House for the last three days of our honeymoon in October 2011. The customer service here (as it seemed to be in Arizona in general) was excellent. We are from a few locations closer to the East Coast and while we have lived in places where people are very friendly, this was impressive.

We rented the Chelsea Garden room for three nights after a 40mi motorized rafting trip on the Colorado originating in Peach Springs with a put-in near Diamond Creek. We spent a lovely day on the river and got to Conifer around 10pm, and Lauren was very accommodating of our late check-in and the private jacuzzi tub and fire-place were a wonderful treat.

We spent the next couple of days in Flagstaff and went to the Grand Canyon on our last day to watch the sunset. Over the course of our three day stay at the B&B we were treated to Champagne with a personalized wedding congratulations card, chocolates on our pillows, and delicious multi-course breakfasts every morning, including pumpkin pecan pancakes with spiced maple syrup and delicious yogurt parfaits. A complimentary selection of wines was also available during the evening.

I fully recommend Lauren's bed and breakfast to any traveler looking for a relaxing vacation in Northern Arizona.

“Beyond the Best”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 October 2011

So much more than perfect accommodations, at the Conifer House we were treated with a kindness one rarely encounters. Lauren clearly loves hosting her B&B and delights in making her guests feel pampered. My new husband and I stayed for eight days and can't wait to return. Comfortable bed, soft linens, beautifully appointed room (insulated from outside noises), private whirlpool and fireplace, immaculate surroundings, pretty courtyard, healthy and delicious gourmet breakfasts, thoughtful gifts, endless coffee, snacks, bottled water, soft drinks, wine, movies, books..., excellent recommendations on the area's dining and attractions, and every attention to individual needs. The four couples tables in the comfortable dining and lounging room allowed for privacy or interaction with other guests depending on one's choice. We met many lovely people during our stay. Our sincere gratitude.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Chelsea Garden Room which was absolutely lovely.
