We stayed at the Flagstaff KOA for a special vintage Volkswagen event, the first annual "High Altitude Kampout".
The campground is very nicely tended to, wooded, and shady.
It sits right at the foot of Mount Elden, and has great easy access to the Coconino National Forest and numerous trails. The facilities were very nice-- clean restrooms and showers, pleasant common sitting areas. The employees were friendly, and the office folks were helpful. Their camp store is well stocked with food, beverages and other neccessities.
They also have a "kamp korral" which was like the clubhouse for the campground, with fooseball table, and activities (perhaps just due to our event), and a concert that evening. Signs hanging near the office made me think they do have events --movies, cookouts, music---throughout the week for their guests.
We really enjoyed our time there-- very nice accomodations-- I would recommend it to any folks passing through the area. They also rent camping cabins which were all located along the rear edges of the campgropund, bordering the national forest land-- nice locations!
One caveat-- they do not have "fire pits" at each campsite, like most camgropunds do, and campfires are only allowed if you bring your own chimenea or metal fire pit.
It is walking distance to the Flagstaff Mall and several grocery stores nearby on Hwy 89. The campground though, despite its proximity to civilization, is well tucked back behind a grove of Ponderosa pines, making you feel you are off in the middle of the forest.
