I had the pleasure of an overnight stay at the City Place Inn on Saturday 9-17-11. The young woman at the front desk was charming and most helpful when I needed to locate a church for evening services and later welcomed the information of a time change in the services which had not been supplied to the hotel.
I had read some other reviews, not enthusiastic ones, and wondered if the reins might not have been dropped during the period between hand changes to La Quinta. However, I had absolutely none of the negative experiences mentioned by other people. The non-smoking room I requested was perfectly clean and comfortable, as were the halls and elevator outside. I didn`t swim in the pool but, odd as it reads, sat beside it for quite a while because it was very relaxing. The water was certainly clean and clear and I would have notice otherwise.
Breakfast the next morning was exactly what was offered: a much better than average continental breakfast. It started promptly at 7:00AM. It was quite good and just what I needed. Incidentally, a large party arriving on my heels certainly sounded as if they were enjoying it as much as I.
My check-out was simplicity itself since I had used a pre-paid on-line registration. I hope LaQuinta does as well by their future patrons as City Place did by me.
Just in passing, I may be biased (I grew up in Springfield) but the locale is no more dangerous than any other city neighborhood. It is empty on weekends and nights, of course; this is not a residential neighborhood, after all. But any warnings you might read in reviews should be regarded in this light.
