“September 17, 2011”

I had the pleasure of an overnight stay at the City Place Inn on Saturday 9-17-11. The young woman at the front desk was charming and most helpful when I needed to locate a church for evening services and later welcomed the information of a time change in the services which had not been supplied to the hotel.

I had read some other reviews, not enthusiastic ones, and wondered if the reins might not have been dropped during the period between hand changes to La Quinta. However, I had absolutely none of the negative experiences mentioned by other people. The non-smoking room I requested was perfectly clean and comfortable, as were the halls and elevator outside. I didn`t swim in the pool but, odd as it reads, sat beside it for quite a while because it was very relaxing. The water was certainly clean and clear and I would have notice otherwise.

Breakfast the next morning was exactly what was offered: a much better than average continental breakfast. It started promptly at 7:00AM. It was quite good and just what I needed. Incidentally, a large party arriving on my heels certainly sounded as if they were enjoying it as much as I.

My check-out was simplicity itself since I had used a pre-paid on-line registration. I hope LaQuinta does as well by their future patrons as City Place did by me.

Just in passing, I may be biased (I grew up in Springfield) but the locale is no more dangerous than any other city neighborhood. It is empty on weekends and nights, of course; this is not a residential neighborhood, after all. But any warnings you might read in reviews should be regarded in this light.

Thank you for such a glowing review. We value the time you take to write your opinions. Reviews help us make each and every stay better.
I am happy to hear that you were able to take time to relax by our pool. It is after all an important aspect of any trip. It also pleases me to hear you found our breakfast above average.
We look forward to seeing you in the future and hope you will continue to return to City Place Inn & Suites (soon to be La Quinta).

“This Place Has Taken A Dive In The Past 10 Years”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 September 2011

The 1st time I stayed here was over 10 years ago It was a Holiday Inn back then Since then this place has had more owners that a 30 year old used car.

It is my understanding that soon La Quinta will be taking over That is good news at at least La Quinta will have the money to get this place finally back to a respectable clean safe hotel.

However until a complete remake of this hotel is done I will be staying elsewhere.

I am sorry that your stay was less than enjoyable. It is true that the hotel has not had a major update in quite a few years. This will be changing in the very near future.

You are correct in stating that City Place Inn & Suites will become a La Quinta in 2012. Our preparations are underway to transform this hotel into a modern, downtown location to accommodate both business and leisure travelers comfortably.

No worries, for those of you who are thinking “more new owners”. On the contrary, the local company that has been in ownership of the property since June 2010, Pioneer Valley Hotel Group, will remain the owners and bring this property back up to par.

I would like to thank you for taking the time to review your stay and hope that you revisit us once we finish our transformation.

“City Place Inn showing its age, but soon to be remodeled”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 August 2011

We stayed here for two nights. I'm a very picky person when it comes to cleanliness. It wasn't the cleanest, but not the worst, either. I found the young lady at the front desk to be personable and helpful. I had guessed that this used to be a Holiday Inn business class hotel, and I was correct. She said it will be closed later this year and will be remodeled and become a LaQuinta.
The pool was open, and my family enjoyed it.
We also were concerned about the neighborhood (as others mentioned), but also understand the area is undergoing urban renewal. This takes time.
There was free breakfast, but it wasn't the best.

Room Tip: Request a corner room - extra spacious, especially with kids

Here right now. Lady at front desk was unpleasant from the get-go. Paper thin walls. Key cards wouldn't work. Creepy people tried to get into our room twice at night.

Biggest problem for me: Pool closed! It was the ENTIRE reason we stayed here. We could have spent $50 bucks and stayed anywhere but we paid almost $100 a night and got to swim for about 1/2 hour the whole trip.

Making an admin's wage, I saved for months for this small vacation, only 2 days away from work life, and for my 25th birthday. I feel really ripped off. We have no pool access at home, it is a rare treat for us. I won't get another vacation for a year or so, and this one was tiny as it was, and it is ruined now. Happy birthday to me.

I would like to apologize for the pool being closed during your stay with us. I can understand the frustration you must have as it was a special event. The pool was closed for a period of time for improvements and routine maintenance. In an effort to keep our guests safe and our hotel clean, it is often necessary to occasionally limit access to certain public area at slow times during the day.

Once again, I do apologize for the inconvenience and frustrations we may have caused. We would like to wish you a belated birthday and best wishes on your 25th year.
