“Nice hotel, staff could be friendlier”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

Hotel has a beautiful atrium. Furnishings in the common areas are welcoming, and clean. Rooms have been renovated and look good.Comfy beds. Our room was clean. We really liked this hotel over all.
However, since it is in downtown not a lot of places to eat nearby on the weekends as they must get most of their customers from downtown offices/ businesses during the work week. Sports pub was not great, waitstaff unfriendly. We definitely will stay there again, but not eat at the hotel.
You do have to pay for parking, but you have to to stay at most, if not all, of the downtown hotels. The price of being right in the city, I guess.

“Nice overnight visit”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

I booked this hotel through the Priceline bid option. After I found out this was the hotel I would staying at and read all the reviews for the past year, I admit I was pretty apprehensive about my overnight visit at the end of January. I was pleasantly surprised. I had a king-size room on the 9th floor which was just lovely. It was very clean and well-appointed. The front desk staff were pleasant. Because I arrived after dinner and left before breakfast, I did not have the opportunity to try the restaurant. It was noisier in my room was than I expected, but I think that's the fault of the building design.

The absolute worst part of the visit was the parking. The underground lot is a mess. It's small and cramped with all kinds of twists and turns. There were a bunch of cars parked illegally, which just made finding a spot worse. In retrospect, I should have parked across the street at the I-91 garage, and if I ever stay here again, I will.

“Avoid if Possible”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 January 2012

Don't be fooled by Sheraton's website stating "renovated guest rooms" because as of mid-January, only floors 5 through 8 were renovated. It was late in the evening when I checked in and was given a room on the 7th floor. I will admit the room was nicely updated but soon after settling in I noticed something. It was the LOUD sounds coming from the major highway just outside the window. I'm a fairly light sleeper and didn't have any ear plugs with me so this wasn't going to work. I contacted the front desk and they said to come down and they would move me to another floor. When I got there, I was told the only rooms left on the "quiet" side of the hotel were on the club level (I guess they must move a lot of folks?) and that I'd have to pay $30 extra. I didn't see why I had to pay extra, especially since it was late at night and I was checking out early the next day so couldn't take advantage of the club amenities, AND this club room was not renovated. But the front desk manager didn't care and since I was traveling on business and it was late, I agreed to pay. A few days after checking out, I realized my credit card had been charged almost double of what my initial rate was, not just $30 more. I didn't know what happened but I contacted the hotels account department and thankfully they credited my account back for the difference.

The club room was old, dirty (stained carpet, worn-out) and the bed not very comfortable. I would've given this hotel only 1 star but had breakfast at their restaurant and it was fantastic, so that bummed my rating to 2 stars. .

Room Tip: Avoid the rooms which overlook the highway

“Not up to the Sheraton standard”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 January 2012

I'll keep it short and sweet. Starwood Platinum member for 8 years. Hotel - not up to the Sheraton standard. Parking - bad. Restaurant - both dinner and breakfast were horrible. The waitress was more conerned about us paying the bill than delivering us warm food. Bar - even worse with weak drinks. Room - ok Bed - great!! Check in and check out staff - good

“Well located hotel in need of a renovation”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 January 2012

It really pains me to say this, because we are big fans of Sheraton/Starwood hotels, having stayed at literally dozens throughout the world, but this one needs some help. Where to start? The truth is that nearly every aspect of the property was only average or below. The location is good, just off Route 91 in the middle of downtown Springfield and the hotel personnel were young and uniformly helpful, but the room contained chipped and damaged furniture, the self-parking cost $12.95 per night, and the hotel bar only carried about 4-5 brands of beer. There was so much lint and garbage (i.e., candy wrappers, etc.) on the floor of our room that it was clear that it hadn't been vaccuumed in awhile. Worst of all, our Gold SPG status somehow landed us in a room smack in the middle of some kind of teen tour with whooping teens in the rooms surrounding us and partying literally all night long. Where were their chaperones? Where was hotel security when kids are rampaging through the hallways at 3 AM? We will not return, especially since there is a Marriott right next door. If you must stay at a Sheraton in the area, try the one at the Hartford Airport (Bradley) just 12 miles south. The entire experience was a big disappointment overall. 'Nuff said.

Room Tip: To choose a "good" room, try a different hotel.
