Stayed here during a fishing trip in May of 2011 with family, what a treat it was!! The Hotel that is..
1. The services here are stellar.
2. The staff are very informative, which is a lot more than we could say for some, they even pointed out the best attractions, including the Sitka National Historical Forest and the list of clubs and shops downtown along with the local Seafood Festival, which others never even spoke of. Even the locals never mentioned it, thanks to the staff here we quickly dressed for the rain and got to the festival real quick for some good seafood.
3. The rooms were top~notch, at least ours were, clean as could be and the view was spectacular out over the bay into the ocean.
4.The food was awesome, we even got to have halibut and chips and boy do they know how to cook it, tasty, tasty tasty!! and the best part is, you don't even have to worry about catching it!! and then cooking it, they do it for you, and there way of cooking the halibut was unmatched.
5.The location is great, but I must admit, Juneau is a quaint little town too, and there are lots of scenes to see over there as well, so if you visit Sitka, don't forget to pop over to Juneau to the sister Westmark property there too as you will be missing out on beautiful Auke Bay!! and all its bounty of Salmon, Halibut and whales that are so amazing!!. Sitka is a rainforest...
Juneau has the better ice fields.
With respect to the hotel staff, they even pointed out the best time to visit Sitka and the best time to fish in the area and avoid terrible weather.
Thank you Westmark Staff Sitka especially those working the bar and restaurant, they treated us like family and gave us more service than we could have thought possible. If in the area again, we'd stay here over some of the other old out dated buildings we saw..
