This old Victorian partially renovated hotel is where all the fishermen stay and one of the places where they party and drink etc. The stuff that goes on here is unbelievable. We loved it!. It's part of the rough and tumble town that has remained authentic because of the limited cruise boat activity. Even if it's not the place you'd like to stay, you should go check out the bar...and the other bars on the street and in the area, to meet some of the locals...you'll have a great time.

I thought this was a very good stay considering how cheap it was. I think it was the only good-cheap hotel in sitka(at the time). Good room service good room and overall enjoyed my stay

For being the least expensive hotel in Sitka, it's definitely a good deal. Our room was very clean with two queen beds & one twin bed, along with a view of the bridge. I've stayed at the Westmark before and it's not worth spending money on a "name" because in Alaska that really doesn't matter! The Sitka Hotel was quint, friendly and convenient. Earplugs are great at any hotel...I mean, if you're in NYC are you not going to stay at the Marriot Marquis because of the "noise" of Times Square? It is a bit noisy behind the hotel in the parking lot, but again with your earplugs it doesn't matter!

They need to update their website, since the front desk employee said their rates haven't been updated for 2 years. Just do it to avoid disputes!

So bottom line, stay here for the best deal. The Westmark is just a name here in Sitka, but by no means is any better. I'm glad I saved that extra $75/night!

Great, friendly staff and excellent location makes this a popular hotel. Once I went down the shades-of-rehab hallway, the stark room chilled my already damp body from the continual rains in Sitka. The bed is in the middle of the room--neither the head or foot are against a wall. The furniture looks like something purchased at a Goodwill fire sale. The curtains, pink flowers with green leaves, are so old light comes through different parts; is it any surprise that the bedspread doesn't match the curtains? Add to that the constant noise--voices that carry in the hall and rooms above that squeak when someone moves in the bed or walks. The walls are so thin I could hear the guy next door snoring. If you stay here and are a light sleeper, bring a good sleeping pill.

A problem with many hotels in this area is that there is no incentive to improve; they have a captive audience of tourist that will come and pay the price because of the location. A decent chain should invest in the area or some LGBT folks would do well to come here and help these hotel owners out. If you have other options, choose them.

If some says go to the Sitka Hotel just say no, no no!
