Great, friendly staff and excellent location makes this a popular hotel. Once I went down the shades-of-rehab hallway, the stark room chilled my already damp body from the continual rains in Sitka. The bed is in the middle of the room--neither the head or foot are against a wall. The furniture looks like something purchased at a Goodwill fire sale. The curtains, pink flowers with green leaves, are so old light comes through different parts; is it any surprise that the bedspread doesn't match the curtains? Add to that the constant noise--voices that carry in the hall and rooms above that squeak when someone moves in the bed or walks. The walls are so thin I could hear the guy next door snoring. If you stay here and are a light sleeper, bring a good sleeping pill.

A problem with many hotels in this area is that there is no incentive to improve; they have a captive audience of tourist that will come and pay the price because of the location. A decent chain should invest in the area or some LGBT folks would do well to come here and help these hotel owners out. If you have other options, choose them.

If some says go to the Sitka Hotel just say no, no no!

I wish I would have read these reviews. The place was just awful. It was super noisy in the morning and at night. There was a very loud bar next door. The cops had to be summoned to break up a fight down the hall. It was very scary. I am a fisherman and construction worker so I could handle the rough crowd, but it was very unnerving nonetheless. STAY SOMEWHERE OTHER THAN THE SITKA HOTEL. It is very, very rough.

We booked 5 months ahead and reserved a renovated large room with a microwave, refrigerator and two beds. We called 2 weeks prior to our arrival and confirmed these specific arrangements. However, when we checked in we were given a room with a bed and television--no chair, lamps, nothing. Bare bones. When we went back to the desk their attitude was "too bad, we gave you $5.00 off the rate". And that from a woman who said she was the manager. It was very warm that day and your only option was to prop open the window with no screen. While Sitka is one of the prettiest towns in Alaska, I would recommend that you NOT stay at the Sitka Hotel.

I missed my cruise out of Vancouver and flew to Sitka to meet the boat and needed a cheep place to crash. Cheep it was, but don't expect much. Very quirky, OLD, bare bones. No amenities, not even an alarm clock. My window had to be propped open with the trash can and the beds were twins. If you just need a place for the night, this will do. Two pluses - there is laundry in the bldg and is a great location for everything. I had dinner at the bar at the Westmark Hotel, good food and the locals working there were great. Very friendly and sociable.
