The hotel assured us there would be free shuttle service from the Alaska ferry terminal when the ferry arrived at 2 AM but the shuttle was nowhere to be seen. (Turned out it was neither free nor available). We hitched a ride with a fellow passenger to the hotel. When we complained to the hotel staff about our disappointment, we were told "it is not our fault" and would not take ownership of their broken promise.

Nevertheless, our room was huge and comfortable and the hotel was centrally located. The WiFi was unreliable in our roomso we used the public free terminal in the lobby - also erratic. Again, "it is not my fault" was the reply!

We would recommend but with caveats.

This old Victorian partially renovated hotel is where all the fishermen stay and one of the places where they party and drink etc. The stuff that goes on here is unbelievable. We loved it!. It's part of the rough and tumble town that has remained authentic because of the limited cruise boat activity. Even if it's not the place you'd like to stay, you should go check out the bar...and the other bars on the street and in the area, to meet some of the locals...you'll have a great time.

I thought this was a very good stay considering how cheap it was. I think it was the only good-cheap hotel in sitka(at the time). Good room service good room and overall enjoyed my stay

For being the least expensive hotel in Sitka, it's definitely a good deal. Our room was very clean with two queen beds & one twin bed, along with a view of the bridge. I've stayed at the Westmark before and it's not worth spending money on a "name" because in Alaska that really doesn't matter! The Sitka Hotel was quint, friendly and convenient. Earplugs are great at any hotel...I mean, if you're in NYC are you not going to stay at the Marriot Marquis because of the "noise" of Times Square? It is a bit noisy behind the hotel in the parking lot, but again with your earplugs it doesn't matter!

They need to update their website, since the front desk employee said their rates haven't been updated for 2 years. Just do it to avoid disputes!

So bottom line, stay here for the best deal. The Westmark is just a name here in Sitka, but by no means is any better. I'm glad I saved that extra $75/night!
