I had booked at a fishing Lodge for a 3 day package and they booked me in this hotel for a two night stay before the fishing days as they said they had no room. It cost $150/night. here. the location was great and off the main street so i think it probably was quieter (but very close to it)
If this hotel was in the middle of Peoria, Illinois or some farm land it would have cost about $59/night. Since it was in the middle of Sitka and right by the water and downtown it was $150/night. Apparently, you could book and get a cheaper rate on some on-line website link. (expedia? not sure which one)
Since Alaska's tourist season is short, they have to make the money while they can. Can't fault them for that.
The room was decent. and clean. Behind the bed by the wall wasn't (i dropped something and had to look there)
Shampoo and Conditioner were not good quality.
The bed was very comfortable; like a memory foam I think. It had a nice velour blanket under the bedspread.
Bedspread: I hate that hotels still use the old fashioned quilted bed spreads as I don't want to think of all the possible germs on a bedspread i'm sure doesn't get changed between guests. I prefer they have blankets that are washed in between guests; not some dry cleaned bed spread that you know doesn't get dry cleaned in between guests (I asked the maid and she said they don't dry clean these for each new arrival of a new guest)
They have free lobby internet service.
They have free breakfast. It didn't work for me as it is all flour and sugar products and yogurt with sugar. Instant oatmeal doesn't work for me either.
The staff is nice and friendly. (only one unfriendly older heavy set woman on staff i encountered. Everyone else was very nice) coffee and tea in lobby. 4 out of the 5 times I went to use it, it was cold or stale. No big deal; nice coffee in the room. I told them and they did say they would brew more which was nice of them.
Refrigerator in the room; good for leftovers and cream for coffee as they have that junk powder stuff to put in coffee.
No exercise facilites. i went to the Sheldon Jackson pool to swim as after I was told about Blatchely school having a pool I could use and I walked there and that pool was closed.
If there were more choices at better prices i wouldn't stay here again; but right now they and the Westmark have a hotel/motel monopoly!
