We spent last weekend at the Rockwell Lighthouse. The owner takes you out to the island and then shuttles you once a day into town. He is very nice The house itself is quite old and in need of some real TLC. It is very quirky and fun, but a thorough cleaning is greatly needed. If you can look past the cobwebs, cracked tiles, and broken furniture, it is an awesome treat to stay at this lighthouse. The hot tub is in need of repair, and the wood stove has been taken out with the stack still left hanging. The windows are quite old, so even tho we tried to clean them up, the best views were from the deck. The bathrooms are only on the main floor where sleeping would be on a pull out sofa, and on the 3rd floor with bunk beds. The main bedroom is in the middle. The steps are steep but we thoroughly enjoyed climbing into the cupola a few times a day to enjoy the incredible view. The island is only 1 mile off of shore. You can watch airplanes land at the airport as well as view spectacular views of Sitka Sound. All in all, it has tons of potential, and even as is, is a fun place to stay. Take your own binoculars and enjoy the experience!
