First off, I must admit that my husband and I are hotel snobs. We pay good money and expect the best. We have both traveled the world extensively and have stayed in many many hotels. With all that snobbishness off my chest, we must say that La Fonda (stayed Feb 2012) has been absolutely wonderful. The margaritas in the restaurant were delicious (be careful if you are not acclimated to the altitude, you can get drunk 10x faster on half as much as your used to drinking), the tortilla soup was fantastic, and the service was impeccable. If you can afford the upgrade, we would highly recommend staying in the La Terrazza portion of the hotel. The room was large and had a fire place. These rooms also have a private concierge. Mary Ann was so sweet and helpful for our stay. I only have 2 complaints; 1) breakfast was not to my liking. Actually, it was gross. No worries, we wandered down to Cafe Pasquale and had a wonderful breakfast. 2) The Loretto Chapel outside our room is in love with their bells! Just don't expect to get a nap during the day. They stop ringing at 9pm but start at an excruciatingly early 7am. The hotel has taken up this issue with them, which they have made some compromise. The Chapel used to ring their bells every 15 min ALL DAY AND ALL NIGHT LONG!
