The building is attractive, nice lobby, great location. We came for some R and R. Bad start: although we had asked for a quiet room, we woke up early to the sound of very loud drilling and hammering. It took four phone calls to finally get a person on the line - they admitted that there was "some renovation" going on and offered to make it up to us by moving us to an upgraded room the next night, with a fireplace. Great. A sign above the fireplace said not to light the fire ourselves but to have staff do it, so we did. An hour later our room was filled with smoke and we were coughing and had to sleep with the windows open. Not on the level of tragedy, but we left more sleep-deprived than when we arrived.

Dear doctorcheryl,
Please accept my apologies for your less than perfect stay. In an effort to remain the most attractive and desireable hotel in town, we are finishing up a renovation which is literally over now, and from which you were hearing the finishing touches. We only allow work to be done during the daytime when we find that most guests are out for the day. I realize that your situation was different, and apologize that you were affected, but glad we were able to provide an upgrade for you. I assure you that our Guest Service team is trained on the correct way to build a fire, and am disappointed to hear that your room encounted a backdraft from the wind. I will certainly share your feedback with the team and we will use it to improve. It is our hope that you will be our guest again in the future, and we would be delighted to welcome you back.
