“Like staying with family or an old friend”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 September 2010

It's difficult to put into words our experience at the Delmar. The house is gorgeous, beautifully decorated, and Dee was a gracious hostess. Within minutes of our arrival we felt welcomed and at home. Dee is an excellent chef, and the breakfasts were huge, presented beautifully and very good. The location is handy to many interesting things to do, and Dee and her friends were very helpful in getting us pointed in the right direction, making our touring very easy. After a hot day of doing the tourist thing, it was great to return to the indoor pool to relax. Because of an experience like this, we will return to the Santa Fe area and will definitely stay at the Delmar. We're sorry we didn't get a chance to meet her business partner, Marie, as she was traveling.

“Heaven and bliss”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 August 2010

I stayed here with my partner and two girls (age 11 and 13) and had a heavenly visit. The room, in fact the whole place, is artfully decorated with thoughtful and gorgeous art and furniture. The decor is tasteful, colourful South West/Tuscan in style and also incredibly comfortable. Our bedroom had a lovely big double bed and the girls each had single bed. The en suite shower/bath room was beautiful and double shower was unusual and fun. Wonderful views from our room. Immaculately clean but not clinically so, you can tell that the owners care deeply for the upkeep of this amazing building with an intriguing history.

The breakfasts are a delight - I counted three courses - beautifully presented, inventive, delicious, seasonal and very filling.

We were made to feel totally at home in the relaxed atmosphere. Staying here was a total pleasure.

“Staying with family could not have been more comfortable or enjoyable!”

We enjoyed a wonderful anniversary trip to New Mexico this past October. Never having been west, we were unsure of where to stay. Finding this B&B on TripAdvisor, I called the Delmar en la Cienega to get details and make a reservation. Dee took the call and immediately became a friend. Even before we arrived, Dee and Marie had taken our itinerary ideas and culinary likes and dislikes into consideration, as well as asking all of the pertinent questions necessary to ensure a lovely stay. Our room was incredible and the amenities of their home outstanding. The decor is beautiful with many wonderful touches of local art and the true feel of New Mexico. Our morning meals were inventive, well prepared and served with love and friendship. Dee and Marie rule in the kitchen! Location was also perfect. We traveled to Abiquiu, Albuquerque, Taos, the Turqoise Trail and more. It was so nice to return home each evening after a fun day to find our suite ready and waiting with the song of the coyotes to sing us to sleep after a dip in the heated pool. We just can't find the words to thank them, as Dee and Marie were in many ways responsible for our memorable days in Santa Fe. Definitely the most wonderful B&B we've stayed in!

“Lovely, romantic place to enjoy the wide, open spaces and then zip into town”

Charming, friendly hostesses. Delicious, imaginative breakfasts. Amazing home, decorated to perfection. Off the beaten path in the middle of nature but only 15 minutes drive to town. Listen to the coyotes say goodnight to you. Highly recommended!

“Better than a castle”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 May 2009

We booked Delmar en la Cienega the first time in September of 2007 because we wanted to hike at Kasha-Katuwe Tent Rocks National Monument, and Delmar was very close. We had booked the following two nights in Santa Fe because we did not realize how close Delmar was to Santa Fe. After arriving at Delmar and seeing how glorious it was and realizing how easy it was to get into Santa Fe, we checked to see what the cancellation policy was on our Santa Fe motel. But we would have forfeited the cost of the first night's stay, so we left with great regret the following day.

Our next time in New Mexico was May of 2009. We flew in and out of Albuquerque, and planned to spend two weeks exploring the southern part of the state. As we mapped out the trip I kept regretting that we wouldn't be near Delmar for a repeat visit, and finally we decided to forego visiting some new parts of southern New Mexico so that we could spend two nights at Delmar. Although staying there would require extra driving that took us out of our way, we at least knew that the last two days and nights of our trip would be wonderful.

We were so glad to see Marie and Dee again. Their warmth and kindness made us feel as if we were coming home. We've stayed in B&Bs in the US, England and France, including two castles in France and two 15th-century manses in England and France, and there's nothing to compare with Delmar and Dee and Marie. The hacienda is so beautifully furnished and restored that I can imagine what it must have been like to be a grandee in old New Mexico. The indoor swimming pool is a gorgeous part of the house and we enjoyed using it at the end of each day. Breakfast is always a treat. My mouth is watering as I write this.

But most of all, Marie and Dee are the heart and soul of Delmar. On both occasions we've wished we could stay longer. I am now trying to figure out how we can include Delmar in our next trip to the Southwest, even if we don't go anywhere else in New Mexico. I envy those lucky people who have never been there and who will have the delight of discovering this jewel in the desert and the two wonderful people who watch over it.
