Best things about Discovery Inn are the wonderful accommodating managers, the large picnic grounds, large outdoor hot tub and best rates on the island for a group. The rooms are large, and the beds were very soft. Room decor is very basic, do not expect luxury accommodations, but are perfect for a laid back island visit. Rooms along Guard Street can be noisy if windows kept open. Location about one mile from downtown Friday Harbor was perfect, as close enough to get a good walk but far enough to be away from the constant ferry traffic and hub bub.

We visited the San Juan Islands with our bike club, and were the only club members who stayed here. The inn is old, its walkway runs the perimeter of the hotel, and so those walking by could see into your room. The rooms are old but are large enough for a table, two chairs, and a small lounge chair, and contain a microwave and refrig. However, this is the best value for your money in expensive Friday Harbor. The delight were the owners, Jim and Beth, and their staff, when we came down each morning, greeted us warmly, and made you feel at home, an important part of any hotel. Bikes are not allowed in the room, but Beth and Jim have a locked shed in which you could safely keep your bikes, in basically crime-free Friday Harbor.

I never write reviews, but I am so sleep deprived right now, I felt I must warn others. My best advice "spend the extra $100 a night, your back is worth it!" The room is dreary, antiquated and just plain depressing. The worst part is the bed, it is maybe a half a step up from the floor.......hard is an understatement. I travel often for work and have never paid so much a night for such a horable stay.

Stayed here with six friends on a bike trip through the San Juans. Rooms were basic hotel-type rooms. Not the best value for what you get, but better than anything else we could find on the island and the ONLY hotel we found that offered rooms with 2 queen beds. They have a very large jacuzzi that was heavenly after a day of riding. The grounds were pretty and well-kept. The owners/managers and young, friendly and very helpful. They gave us several good recommendations for restaurants and things to do, including helpful maps and directions. Even made a couple of phone calls for us to check on reservations. Don't believe the reviews that say the service was poor or "weird." We all thought they were very kind and helpful. That reviewer must just be a grouch! Our only complaint was that the beds were very hard. Their first upgrade should be new mattresses!
