“Very friendly staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

The manager, Mr. Shah and Chris at the front desk provided us with information about places to eat, shop, and see, as well as directions and recomendations. Everyone was so friendly all the way to the cleaning staff who barely spoke English. We didnt expect much for the price but the room was clean and the area was safe to walk home to at night. Walking distance to the Riverwalk, Alamo, and Alamodome.

“Great Budget Hotel in central San Antonio”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 November 2011

We arrived by bus to San Antonio and the greyhound station is only a 10 minute walk from the hotel. We arrived early in the morning and the hotel were able to accomodate us hours before check in which we were very greatful for after travelling all night. The rooms were large, clean and had all the amineties required for a short stay. There was also a swimming pool which we did not use. The hotel offers free breakfast which was ok - they have a waffle making machine which is nice though. It is about a 15 minute walk from the hotel to the Alamo or the Riverwalk. The area is not very busy at night but as a couple we felt safe walking at together.

“Bed Bugs!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 November 2011

About and hour after getting into our room we getting into bed and when we pulled the comforter back there was a bed bug crawling on the sheet. So, I pulled all the sheets back, lifted up the mattress and moved the bed and sure enough there was significant evidence of bed bugs including living bugs, dead bug carcasses, and the tell tale black droppings they leave behind (I, fortunately, watched a discovery show only a week ago on bed bug infestations). We had a room with two double beds. When I check the other bed I found the same scenario. I called the front desk and after some confusion and a couple calls we packed everything up and went down to the front desk to get a room change. After getting our new room and walking into it it was quite apparent that the room was a smoking room due to the unignorable and overwhelming odor that slapped us in the face as we walked in the room. When I walked back to the front desk to ask to be moved into a non-smoking room like we had booked I was informed that this was only room left and that there was nothing more he could do, and, that I would have to wait until morning to talk with a manager. So, with no other choice we stayed in that room. We did thoroughly check the new room for bed bugs and found no evidence of them. Our first, room was on the second floor and our second room was on the first. First floor rooms are considerably louder as you can hear every footstep above you, especially if you are by the stairs as our second room was; I think perhaps the rooms are poorly insulated. In the morning the manager called us and after some discussion decided to refund the cost of our first night and agreed to move us to a non-smoking room. So, after moving a third time we finally ended up in a non-smoking room with no bed bugs. The manager did say we was going to have an exterminator come by but bed bugs are notoriously hard to get rid of. If you do chose to stay here after reading this review then take note: room #223 is the that we found bed bugs in so if you get placed in that room or adjacent to it you might want to think about requesting a new room.

We checked into this hotel for a 2 night stay while visiting San Antonio because it was within walking distance of the riverwalk, it was on the cheaper side of hotels in that area, and honestly my wife and I had stayed there for a trip to San Antonio a couple years ago and it wasn't bad, granted it was no 5 star luxury hotel but it was nice enough and clean... then. Clearly, things have changed and I won't stay there again.

Summary
Pros: Short walk to the Riverwalk. Both a bus stop and a trolley stop literally just outside the hotel. On the cheaper side of hotels in the Riverwalk area.

Cons: BED BUGS. Questionably kept-up and cleaned. Inexperienced staff at nights after the manager leaves. Overpriced for actual hotel room value.

Room Tip: If you get room #223 ask for a different one. This is the room that had bed bugs. Also, second floor...

“It was ok...i suppose”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 October 2011

We arrived hours early (like 7 hours!) and at first we were told our room wasnt ready but after 2 hours they allowed us to check in and go to our room which we really appreciated. At first the room seemed fine. The bedding was clean (which is most important for me) and the room seemed fine. The location is great, just a short walk to the main downtown area and the Alamo and Riverwalk etc. On our second night we found that our room was infested with bugs. Im not sure what kind of bugs they were, they looked like some alien cousin of a cockroach. We hadn't seen them at all the previous night so wondered if maybe they'd come as a result of us using our fridge for the day as thats where they seemed to be located near. We complained to the main desk and the young guy working it didn't believe us! He said the rooms don't have bugs. We told him to go look in our room and he would see that they do! We asked him if this was common, he ignored us and started talking in a foreign language to another staff member and laughing. We told him we wanted to change rooms so he reluctantly allowed this, we decided to go and check out the room before we accepted it. We walked in and the first thing we saw we these bugs again, this time walking up the wall of the main room and also in the bathroom. We went back to the main desk and told the guy there were more. He laughed at us and said "whats wrong, are you scared of little bugs?". This attitude was not appreciated! We demanded another room. Luckily this one was fine, if not a little grotty (could have done with a proper vacuum around the bed bases. Outside is full of cockroaches too, walking along the balcony, crawling up the walls. We did laundry one night and it was like mission imposible getting across the grounds without being attacked by huge flying cockroaches.
There was a basic pool and a basic breakfast. I wouldn't stay here again but i suppose for the price and location it was fine.

Room Tip: If you find bugs in your room and ask to change rooms, check the new room before accepting it. Chanc...
