“Historic Charm and Haunted I hear”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

The folks at the desk were great. We had come in from a long car trip and literally booked online (I think orbitz) literally sitting in the car in front. The girl didn't see our reservation immediately, so we just printed the reciept at the business ounge and we were all set. She even offered to print it for us in the back office. Beautiful lobby, fantasic furniture selection, touch of modern comfort and classic elegance. We heard it was haunted, but never saw anything.

The best part of our stay was the bed. So comfortable I inquired about how to purchase one... but didn't. Great location steps from the Riverwalk.

Con... San Antonio can be empty at night. This property faces a park that I would avoid after dark. Still felt safe in the area though.

Room Tip: I always request away from elevators and ice machines. They can be loud.

“Needs Renovation but good location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

My husband and I spent 2 nights at the St. Anthony because a friend of ours made the reservations there for a group of us. We did not valet park because of the costs (base plus extra for an SUV) so we parked one block away the hotel recommended which was not so bad, except the guy we checked in with had to correct our name on his sheet when I showed him we'd checked in and what room number and then when we checked out there was a nasty note stuck in my car door that said I needed to talk to the attendant. Luckily it was the same attendant who checked me in and he said he didn't know why the main desk did not find our room and name. We had no problems checking into the St. Anthony. The LOCATION was great...we walked a few blocks to the riverwalk where a lot of restaurants were. The alley between the St. Anthony and the italian restaurant where you have to cross to get to the riverwalk was a stinky place to walk thru on the sidewalk. THE ROOMS have a far way to go to be a 4-star hotel. I know its historic like the manager types the same responses everytime but there is a LOT OF MOLD in the bathrooms and many things were broken. I took pictures. At check out I told the attendant that I would not be staying here again and she asked why I didn't call to get it fixed....welll, I didn't want to be smelling clorox my whole trip and they had told me when we checked in that the hotel was full so I knew moving was not an option. The bathroom was VERY SMALL and the bathtub was funky in that ALL the sides leaned in towards the middle. You had to close the door inorder to use the toilet. THE CARPET was very old and does need replacement. The front desk were very nice and did inform me at checkout that the hotel was going to start a $?Million-dollar renovation. Also the room needed more working electrical plugs due to needing to charge cellphone, computer, use iron, etc. Half our plugs did not work or you could not keep your appliance pluged in. One morning, I had my "Do Not Disturb" thing on the door and this guy who was carrying linens bumped into my door really hard. I stood still for a little bit and then went to the door and he was still there. I picked up the "Do Not Disturb" card and a maid came out the door across the hall and the guy said to me that I should of had that already on the door. I told him it was and that SOMEONE knocked it off. I was glad there was the maid coming out the other door cuz he gave me a scare. THE BED...it was comfortable some but it was so high that I had to run and jump to get on it. The first time I didn't make it and my husband caught me. They need to have step stools in these rooms. The closet was very small but adequate. We looked over Travis Park which was nice seeing all the transients that were sleeping on the benches there. The TV was the old big 27" one that was in need of replacement cuz at times the TV would make funky noises. BREAKFAST food tasted good but was not as abundant as we have experienced at other hotels. We were the first ones there on Saturday morning and we even got there 45 minutes after their posted opening and they just started putting out some of the food after we got our plate. The LOBBY was beautiful and historic. Loved looking at all the pictures of famous people who have stayed there.

“Great "OLD" Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

Stayed Sunday Feb 5th, 2012. This is a very old hotel that has been brought up to date. Rooms are quite large, the bathroom was very small though. Open door until it hits toilet, step inside and then close door so you can get to the toilet. Sink had a drainage problem, not stopped up just really really slow to drain. Coffee maker in room was a plus. Extra large closet in entry was nice. Parking cost is a little excessive but if you want your vehicle handy valet is best bet.

“Vintage but lacks customer service”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

I had made my reservations through Priceline, which of course doesnt give you an option to upgrade your room so I had to call the hotel directly. I called 2 weeks prior to my trip and mentioned that I needed two beds, they said they'd make notes on my reservation and it was way in advance so I was sure to get the room with double beds; to my surprise they didn't and the only thing offered was a rollaway bed. the room is very small, room service had to take a side table and lamp out of the room to fit the roll away which made the room smaller and hard to walk around....the TVs are old and not very many channels, the restroom is super small, the tub was backed up, the toilet needed to be flushed several times....I realize this is a 1900's building but come on..... the bed was very comfortable, the A/C was noisy...nice area since its closed to everything but I wouldn't stay there again.
