“Probably not”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 July 2011

Ok if you want to stay near the riverwalk pick a downtown hotel. If your budget is tight check out La Quinta and Red Roof downtown. they are good enough if you are trying to save money. Personally I would try get something even better but if money is the issue, stick with those two and you'll be ok. Also remember if you stay at this SUPER 8 you will have to pay to park down by the Riverwalk or any other venue. Parking adds $10 to $20 per day. Most of the hotels downtown have free parking but be sure to check first. If you want to stay away from the Riverwalk and search for a bargain, I would try up around Riitman Road. The neighborhood of this Super 8 is not good nor is the neighborhood for the Travel lodge or the Days in that are up the road. The problem with this specific Super 8 is there is nothing but bad neighborhood around it. If you want to eat any where you'll need to drive 20- 30 mins either North or to down town. There is a whataburger across the street but you aren't going to eat there every day. So again if you are looking to spend your entire vacation on the Riverwalk I would suggest just staying down there!

For the hotel specifically I will say the cleaning staff does well for what they have. The hotel is run down for sure and in need of an update. My entrance door was black with fingerprints, the furniture was missing parts and the tub was quite scary (say mold in the faucet handle). The best part however was I had a HUGE king suite for a very low price! If this is your only goal in your trip to San Antonio, the hotel isn't bad. There is night security in the parking lot which is needed. Also front desk personal seemed very nice and friendly.

Room Tip: If there is just 2 people or 2 and a child I would definitely get a King Suite. not much to upgrade...

“Good location, reasonable price, very near downtown”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 July 2011

Exterior of hotel could be cleaner but drought restrictions are currently in place. It is a typical Super 8, friendly & helpful staff. Breakfast is basic but adequate. Coffee was good. Room was OK. For the price and location it was a good base for our 3 day stay. It really is 5 minutes from downtown.
Pool is small but not used much while we were there. It is right off the highway and if you don't use the air unit you will be able to hear I-10.

“BED BUGS”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 July 2011

After one night there my mother inlaw had bed bug bites all over her. The second day there we had to take her to a dr to get medication because of the severity of the bed bug bites. by that time myself and my children all had bites when moved to another room there were bugs all over the bathroom. you get what you pay for at this hotel. my inlaws got all thier money back but my family did not becasue we did not report it until our 2 night. The night desk person was very rude and refused to call a manager then she said that she couldnt she changed her story about 4 times. they really ruined a family vacation for us.

“Plesantly Surprised”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 July 2011

I must say I was plesantly surprised. A last minute rush to get a hotel on the 4th of July weekend. I searched, searched and searched, and then I found this hotel being that I booked 2 days before we was suppose to arrive I was very skeptical. I kept thinking what if I had a bad experience like we did last month in ATL. I called and reserved the hotel with a young lady name Rosalie, very sweet young lady, I explained to her what had previously happened to me and she assured me their hotel was nice and clean, I was still skeptical but reserved the room. We arrived in San Antonio and my husband kept saying please dont tell me the same experience we had before in Atl is gonna happen again being it was a last minute thing. Anyway, we arrived and asked if was okay we took a look at the room before we paid, she said yes no problem. We walked to room and I was happy to see how nice and clean the room was, I kept thinking wow, I can actually walk on these floors, the beds had a nice set of serta mattress on the them, the double suite included 2 beds and a let out sofa bed, a microwave, and small refrigerator. The AC was already on I was one happy person to see how clean and nice everything was,the people at the front desk was so nice. They even have a continental breakfast which include, milk, juice, coffee, and bagels. A 24hr Whataburger is directly across the street and your only 4 exits from the Riverwalk, I can't complain at all. Yes, I would certainly stay here again. I was shocked to see how nice this Super 8 really is and made us feel so welcome... Thanks Again to staff at the facility.

“Disappointing”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 June 2011

My wife and I booked this hotel after consulting TripAdvisor. Usually we find the reviews and ratings on TripAdvisor to be helpful. It didn't work out so well for us on this occasion as our experience didn't match up with the positive ratings and reviews we read on here.

We booked this hotel quickly and on rather short notice and apparently didn't pay close enough attention to the name: 'Riverwalk Area'. If your definition of area includes anything within a five mile radius, then I guess the name fits, but we found the name to be misleading. However, we could live with that, the hotel is conveniently located next to IH10. The riverwalk and downtown San Antonio are just a few miles and a couple freeways away.

Our biggest disappointment was the cleanliness of the room. Or rather, the lack thereof. We stayed in a king suite and who knows, perhaps we just happened to get the only dirty one. There were stains on the couch. The bathroom was scary and the light switch in the bathroom was just plain disgusting. It obviously didn't get that way over just a few days. The bed wasn't bad and the wi-fi was nice but we will not stay at this hotel again.

Pros:
* Conveniently located, right next to IH10.
* Spacious Room.
* Fairly modern decor; granite vanity.
* Mini fridge in room.
* Iron with ironing board.
* Staff was friendly.
* Wi-Fi was fast and simple to use.
* Bed was OK. Linens were clean.

Cons:
* Not especially clean; couch had several stains. Bathroom was disturbing; many months (or years) of dust and grime above the tub surround and on the light switch. Door was dirty.
* At first glance the place didn't look so old (e.g. if you check out the pictures on website), but our room was surprisingly run down. The walls were a patchwork of repairs and mismatched touch-up paint.
* The hotel name is a misnomer; it really isn't near the Riverwalk.
