“Nothing but lies, worse place ever !!!!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 June 2010

NON-SMOKING PROPERTY : Lie, Lots of "regular residents" smoking all over the place. Rooms had smoke odor (bad).
CLEAN ROOMS: Another Lie (carpet wet and stink)
RIVER VIEW : Bigger lie (river located several blocks away) well maybe if you get on top of the roof !!!
RENOVATION FINISHED IN 2005 : Well it already needs a new one. (Holes in mattresses, blood stains on sheets, tubs clogged, only hot water (showers and sinks), exhaust fan missing, duct tape took it s place, etc.
REFRIGERATOR AND KITCHENETTES INCLUDED : Biggest lie ! Unless there are invisible, because non of our FOUR rooms had them.
EXTERIOR POOL : MORE LIKE A BABY POOL

“Second worst hotel ever!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 January 2010

It is pretty bad, I recently stayed in a much dirtier hotel in Hidalgo, Texas; however, at least that one was pretty much vacant. The Villager has several permanent residents that hangout on the balcony and watch you come and go. I wouldn't leave ANYTHING in the room that you care about. The police patrol this area, mainly due to the newly opened "Museum Reach" extension of the RiverWalk (very nice scenery) and I would bet they would like to see this eyesore disappear. This hotel has a good location, it is just down the street from the Pearl Brewery, and very close to the riverwalk. Also close to Sam's Burger Joint which is one of San Antonio's few blues music venues. The surrounding residential neighbor hood is old and run-down.

“Can you say Hooker Hotel??”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 October 2004

I was at the Villager Lodge earlier this year and all I can say is yikes!! My reservations for another hotel had fallen through and everything was booked. I began calling every hotel in town and unfortunately for me, the Villager Lodge was #3 on my list. The guy who answered made it sound like a dream.

I was desperate and tired and could only think of getting some sleep. Well, I got to the "Lodge" and I should have listened to my inner voice telling me to get the heck outta there. I didn't and got stuck in a room that smelled worse than a run-down bar. The characters staying there were more than questionable. The neighborhood in the area was also not that welcoming. The sheets, bathroom and carpet were beyond filthy. The door barely locked and I didn't feel safe at all.

I stayed up all night long because I was scared to sleep on the bed. I ended up calling home and my parents sent me money. The wonderful folks at the Travelodge worked hard to get me a room in their hotel.

BEWARE!!! This is not a joke! This hotel is a place for crack heads and hookers! I still can't believe that the people at the San Antonio CVB have them listed on their website!

If you're ever in San Antonio stay at the Travelodge, Hilton or the Marriott!

“Freaky Place”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 August 2004

Our youth group stayed for a week at this hotel, because we had no other choice. We were in San Antonio for the Teen Talent Competiton, and for the Church of God General Assembly. San Antonio was packed. This hotel wasn't just nasty (our rooms were never cleaned, but there was evidence of someone besides us being in the room, and we also killed 12 roaches in the course of a week.)

It was a freaky place, you could even sense it in the daylight. They were in the process of remodeling, which the remodeled rooms looked nice, and the ones we stayed in looked fine as well, but the 'permanent' residents of that hotel were scary. One man came up to us in the pool telling us he was Satan "I came from the serpents of the deep, I come to you to decieve and to destroy". This man lives there. Please don't go, I have stayed in many many hotels, this one is scary and just wierd, even the management acts like they don't know which was is up.

Well we came out unharmed, and I give God praise for that, because he truly kept us safe. Please, if there is one this you get from this review...do not go.

“Villager Lodge....neither a village or a lodge!!!!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 July 2004

Before you pack the car and load up the kids to head to the Villager Lodge make sure your family has had their latest vaccination shots. If you don't mind coming in from 90 degree weather to a room that is also 90 degrees and won't get much cooler than that then the Villager Lodge is the place for you. Also if you are into the soothing sounds of a water fountain then this is the place for you because the water in the shower never stops running. Whats better than an ice cold beverage on a hot day? Just remember when you go to the ice machine to get ice you have to bring a quarter because the ice is not free. It is a step up from being in jail though because instead of your one free phone call you get five....how generous. So unless you are feeling brave and adventerous and don't mind sleeping with one eye opened, then the Villager Lodge is the place for you. I would also suggest bringing your own sheets unless you like laying on stained sheets with someone elses hair on them...and I am not reffering to hair from your head. Even if every single hotel room in the entire San Antonio area was booked up you would still be better off sleeping under the highway in a cardboard box than you would be staying at the Villager Lodge. The saddest part about the whole thing is that the owner/ manager does not really care about the condition of his lodging. So I give this motel two thumbs down.
