My wife and I took a "mini" vacation to San Antonio to see the Alamo and Riverwalk. We stayed for 3 days and had a good time. Loved walking the Riverwalk (only a block away from the hotel). Re-learned my Texas History (from the seventh grade) at the Alamo (across the street). I have lived in Texas my whole life and never been to the Alamo (scratch that one off the bucket list).

Room: Upon arrival (with my 2 dachshunds) to the room, we were given a great tour of the room. We were at the very front of the hotel (a few stories up) and had a wonderful view of the Alamo. We had asked for a room away from everyone (so if the dogs barked, it would not bother anyone). We did get a room with people on both sides of the room, but never had a problem with barking (they must put something in the water to shut them up). The room was kept very clean.

Service: The valet was prompt. We would call the front desk to ask for our car and it was ready before we could get downstairs (everytime). The front desk was always professional and polite.

Restaurant: The restaurant downstairs was good, but not great. I would rate the food 3 of 5. The service was top notch. The server was always refilling our drinks (around every 10 minutes or if they saw that we needed something) and made pleasant conversation.

Overall, this hotel was great. I gave it 4 of 5 since the hotel needs to do some touch up work in the bathroom (paint was chipped and could hear and feel wind in the bathroom toilet window).

This hotel is across the street from the Alamo in downtown San Antonio and a very short walk to Riverwalk area. It is full of history and charm, as well as being modern and comfortable. Beds werer perfect and the pillows large and just right. The room was spacious as was the bathroom. Staff was excellent, very low-key and homey while maintaining an attitude of attentiveness and excellence. Really enjoyed it.

We had booked a number of rooms in this hotel for a conference. First off let's point out the good....room had a nice view over Alamo, location is great (but most downtown hotels seem to be in or around the river walk), most of the staff were polite and courteous.

How this place has 4 diamond rating I really don't know....the room I had was a spa bath room which had stains on curtains, rough cut holes in the ceiling for fire sprinklers, both taps pumped out hot water (delightful when trying to brush teeth) and the room was not cleaned / serviced in 3 nights.

Furthermore we had prepaid all of our rooms but still we had errors in the booking and the hotel had given one of our rooms away due to him checking in late (even though he had dropped in his luggage earlier and the room wasn't ready!). They did find him a room after some hassle.

Finally I was locked out of my room when returning in the early hours of the morning as the electronic key system failed and the hotel night staff could not open it. As the hotel was full (as was every other for the conference) I was forced to sleep on a colleagues sofa!!! Great fun!

All in all I don't blame the staff on duty...try as they did it seemed the hotel is run on a shoe string to maximize profit and maintenance and service is suffering.

I really hope in the current light you are not given a new 4 star rating as I would question the whole system!

All well and good to reap the benefits of high occupancy when a conference is in town, but the least guests expect is that this is backed up with adequate service and resources.

I stayed at EM for 3 days in January, mostly because of overflow at the large conference hotel. It was a reawakening to the high quality and friendly service that a smaller privately-owned hotel can provide. The hotel, a restored San Antonio landmark, is literally across the street from Alamo. It is 100 yards to the river walk. The hotel has 11-12 cozy floors, a nice bar and restaurant, and super helpful staff. I am premier levels at a lot of chains but I will return to Emily Morgan in a heartbeat.
