My husband and I just returned from a weekend getaway at The Fairmount in San Antonio. We had the most wonderful experience - we drove up to the beautiful hotel and hoped it would be as wonderful on the inside as it was on the outside but it exceeded all of our expectations. The room was lovely, the service was exceptional and we also fell in love with the hotel's story as well as its canine-atarian (yes we made up this word) efforts - especially with their director of pet relations, Luke. We will be back for sure - I can't think of any other hotel I'd rather stay at than there - it is very close to all the right tourist favorites downtown, but just far away enough to relax and have a peaceful stay.

Yes, it's cute and quaint. But the pet stains on the carpet in my little tiny room....and the leaking fixtures in the bathroom.....and the broken window facing the street....and the tiles/wallpaper/paint coming off the walls....not so cute :( The staff was very nice and the doggie in the lobby was adorable, but this place needs more than a makeover and to call it a luxury hotel just isn't honest. The restaurant downstairs, Tre' was very good. But eat there and stay somewhere else.

This turned out to be an excellent stay- fast and free wifi, ice was delievered within 5-10 minutes of requesting it, a few (long) blocks to the riverwalk prime touristy areas. Bus #30 (stop is at Alamo & Durango one block away) continues as #5 to get to the airport (and vice versa). I arrived in the early afternoon, was met with a pleasant smile and was able to check in. Directly across from Hemisfair Park.

My husband & I are teachers and we saved money to go to San Antonio for spring break. We arrived around 4:00 pm and our room was not ready. (check in at 3:00) Next problem-they said no smoking in the rooms, but outside our door on the deck we had 4 to 5 people smoking constantly and the smoke went under the door and into our room. (Also when we had to walk by to get to the elevator/or back to our room we would have to pass their clouds of cigarette smoke-there was no other way around it) I'm allergic to smoke, it was horrible! The management said they could not do anything about it. Then on Sat. morning the water is turned off for about 1 hour. The management did not let us know about it ahead of time. It's bad when you are taking a shower and the water is turned off. Management told us the city did not tell them, but we talked to the restaurant and they said they knew about it ahead of time. Worst of all the owner has a letter in the room saying if there is any problems call him directly. I tried contacting him through the hotel but they would not contact him for me. They asked me to fill out a comment card when we checked out. I filled out the card before we left and the women told me the owners' wife Kristin Tips would call me. (that was 2 1/2 months ago and no one has contacted me) This just shows how unprofessional they are and that they do not value customer service!!! Stay Away!
