I had never had anything stolen from my hotel room until I stayed at the Omni San Antonio this past January. I booked the hotel through Hotwire, where the name of the hotel isn't known to you until after you book it. It seemed like a nice place when I checked in, and it was close to the offices where I had meetings.
I was headed out of my room for the day when the housekeeping staff knocked at my door. I let them in and left the room. When I came back a few hours later, the door to my room was open and my MacBook Pro and planner were both missing. Although nothing else was taken, whoever took the computer also had the foresight to go through my things and find the charger and computer case.
It is so cliche to accuse the housekeeping staff of stealing your stuff. I worked in hotels while in college and almost 100% of the time guests' missing belongings would be found--misplaced in luggage, or under a bed following check out. In this case, however, the staff must have played a key role. Either they themselves took the items, or in the least, the cleaning people were not attentive to security, left the door open, and someone roaming the hotel came into my room and took the laptop.
The beef I have is not only that I had approximately $1800 worth of personal belongings taken from my room. To add insult to injury, the staff at the hotel were completely dismissive. They offered no incentives or apologies. They said they would conduct an investigation, but I never heard back from them. I left several messages that were not returned. I was truly shocked how poorly the situation was handled and that the hotel seemed completely unashamed that this had happened. I strongly advise against staying here.
