I am a Diamond Choice Priviledges member and normally stay at this hotel when I am in the San Antonio area. I hadn't stayed here for about a year and, in that year, I think the hotel has gone downhill. Okay, here is the good and bad:
Good:
The hotel is near the airport just off Rt. 281. It is convenient to the airport.
It is in a rather secluded setting, just in front of a business park. You can walk in the morning.
For the price, it is a relatively decent value. The rooms are clean.
Bad:
I had a room with a whirlpool, but the whirlpool is in the room, not in the bathroom. That is okay if you're going to use it. There is no light anywhere near the whirlpool bath, so you shower in the dark. Not good.
Comfort Suites feature a hot breakfast. This one is "bare bones". There was no salt for the eggs, only pepper. The kitchen staff was gone by 6:30 AM and the front desk guy was nowhere to be found, so there is no one to help in relation to breakfast items.
I went to the front desk in the morning to get soap for the guest laundry (I'm in the mining business and get dirty sometimes.) The guy gave me the soap, but when I got upstairs, there was a sign that said "out of order" on the washer. I washed my clothes in the whirlpool. You mean he didn't know the washer was out of order before he sold me the soap?
There is a sign about a Tuesday "reception" with free beer and soda. On the sign it suggests that, after the reception (and I assume a few beers) that they go to Trip Advisor to rate the hotel. I guess they want people in a good mood when they rate the hotel.
Comapred to what I've experienced in the past, the hotel seems to be on a downward slide. I probably will stay somewhere else on my next trip. This is pretty typical of what I'm seeing with Comfort Suites in general. The entire chain seems to be sliding toward a lower class. I guess if you need to be near the airport, you could do worse. Just don't expect much.
