Stayed because of it's location near Market Square. It's NOT close...takes a 4-5 block walk.
The place is run down and not up to the typical Marriott "par". Marriott has built/ renovated numerous hotels in the Alamo area, but has let this one go. I recommend staying at the newer hotels in the downtown area for a few $s more.

I chose this hotel for the free parking and it's location to the Alamo Plaza via ten minutes drive if no traffic. The location around is not well lighted from the main street, and no locals were out walking after 9pm. We felt safer to drive to places and returned late evening.

However, we did not like the room. The bed and pillows were uncomfortable. The AC was loud and noisy, the train was running that we could get any rest.

At any rate, we wouldn't shock by this hotel experience for the $99/night weekend rate. We were deceived by Marriott brand.

We stayed there in early September for 2 nights. We got a good deal for US $ 125.00 per night including free parking and breakfast for two. It is within 2 blocks of walking to the convention center. Needless to say, it is also very close to entrance to the River Walk. The hotel itself is alright. It is not a new hotel, but rather an old one later upgrade to meet the Marriott standard. But it still looks old compared to several other Courtyeard Marriott hotels in other cities that we stayed before.

I stayed 4 nights from 12/11-12/15/11. The hotel has been remodeled and the lobby area is nicely decorated. The hotel offers free wi-fi which was a key factor in my decision to stay at this hotel.

My hotel room faced the inner courtyard which was wonderful. The hotel room was nicely decorated - nothing fancy but appealing. Most rooms (if not all) include a very small balcony with 2 chairs and a small table. The a/c is loud so it may disturb one's sleep particularly if one is a light sleeper. The room includes a refrigerator and a microwave will be provided upon request at no charge. The mattress was comfortable and I had a good night's rest. The shower was okay -not very powerful but it does the job.

I did not have breakfast at this hotel but the good thing about the area is that there are 2 Marriott hotels on the property and a holiday inn across the street. Therefore, explore those hotels if the breakfast served or other meals do not meet your needs. There is a good selection on the menu and I ate dinner at the hotel on 2 occasions. Some seating areas specifically the booth include a TV set which is pretty cool. I took advantage of that opportunity; however, the volume of the main TV easily drowns out the volume of the TV at the booth. Additionally the channel selection was minimal.

I did not interact much with the staff although they seemed a bit overwhelmed at times. They met my needs; therefore, our contact was minimal.

In summary, I enjoyed my 4-night stay. I was comfortable and it was my home away from home. I will definitely return to this hotel and request the same room the next time I'm in San Antonio.
