“Great location, nice accommodation”

A group of adults stayed here for a wedding week. The house is located within easy walking distance of "everything Salem" -- including the wonderful Common where you can join the locals for walking jogging, basketball court, playground. 4 bedrooms, one with a living room beyond it. TINY bathrooms -- don't plan on bending down to pick up the soap in these showers! Window AC units. Hawthorne Hotel provides vouchers for very nice (but leisurely) breakfast next door. Their engineer lives upstairs within this house, comes and goes via the central staircase, so the house doesn't feel as private as it might. "kitchen" is a small fridge, microwave, counter with sink and table w 4 chairs in the living room area. Small deck outside. There's another small fridge part way up the stairs. Fine housekeeping, bedding, TVs and okay wireless.

Dear Guests from Arizona:

Thank you so much for taking the time to complete this on-line review of the Suzannah Flint House for us, and for future visitors. Your honest detail about this house, built in 1805, was very honest and thorough.

The house is never sold as a private house, but as a bed and breakfast, where you can rent all four of the units. We do have an on-site staff member for security in case of an emergency, and to keep an eye on things to make sure our guests have a good experience there.

We do not advertise a kitchen with this space, but simply have added a few items to the suite to make staying there more comfortable -- an under-counter refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, and sink.

We are very pleased to see that you were pleased with the housekeeping, bedding, and TV. We appreciate learning that the Wi-Fi was okay, but are interested to learn if you actually had any issues with it, so we can alert the provider if that was the case?

Thank you again for writing, and we look forward to your return.

Sincerely,

Juli Lederhaus

“Think Again”

Based on wonderful review that we saw on tripadvisor.com, we booked a room at this B&B. We arrived to find smelly, dirty bathrooms, unemptied trash, on cleaned coffee pot from previous guest and no window shades. Fortunately, someone did change the bed so we stayed. The Hotel Manager made many promises regarding immediate housekeeping but we returned to our room at 3pm to find that NOTHING had been done. After personal visit with HM, we had to leave again for an hour and a half while they did housekeeping. While they cut our bill by half, we did not feel that we even received that in exchange. Will not return to this hotel again!

We are extremely sorry that you had a less-than-perfect experience at the Suzannah Flint House. The person you spoke with, our Front Office Manager, is very regretful and apologetic that she did not follow through appropriately with you. She is usually quite thorough.

I do hope you might feel like you could contact me to see what else can be done for you. This is certainly not the way we usually treat our guests, but there seemed to be the "perfect storm" of circumstances that caused things to not go well for you.

We have changed the window coverings to something much more user-friendly, and appreciate your guest perspective on that.

Thank you for your frank review. We can always learn and do better, and we try very hard to satisfy every guest. Sometimes we miss the mark, as we are all very human. I do hope you will accept our apologies.

Sincerely,

Juli Lederhaus

“Historic, quaint B&B”

My friend and I stayed here a few years ago during October. The Suzannah Flint Guest House is historic, quaint and charming. The breakfasts were fine, the location great and the innkeepers friendly. It is a place that I would definitely return to. It is within walking distance of the Salem attractions. Salem is a fun town to visit. We've been twice.

“Home away from home”

I have stayed at the Suzannah Flint house on vacation two years running now and wouldn't stay anywhere else when I visit Salem. The caretakers/owners of this wonderful home are the most gracious and friendly B&B owners I have ever had the pleasure of staying with.

I would recommend to anyone who visits Salem to choose the Suzannah Flint house above all others.

“Comfortable, terrific location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 May 2004

I stayed here a lot over the course of several years when visiting my late dad, who lived the next town over. Don't expect a house that's two centuries old to have the feel of a Holiday Inn. The phone is in the hallway, the bathroom (all of them private, by the way) in one of the rooms on the first floor is at a cramped, weird angle, and the ceiling of the top-floor room is about 6-feet 3-inches high. But what you should expect is an incredibly comfortable bed (the mattress is made in Salem), good cable TV, character, and cleanliness. Scott, the owner, doesn't provide an elaborate breakfast, but it's enough to get you going, and he's happy to make accommodations. The price is about the best in the area, and the location is incredibly convenient. (It actually shares the Hawthorne Hotel's parking lot.) Salem is a wonderful city, with a couple of fine restaurants and many decent ones. The commuter train to Boston is a short walk away, or it's also convenient to drive to the Wonderland park-and-ride and take the subway. Salem itself is the home of a ton of historical things, including the magnificent Peabody-Essex Museum, which is worth an entire day, and the Salem Maritime National Historic Site, part of the National Park Service. Yeah, there's witch trial stuff, too, but you're really cheating yourself if you miss the Peabody-Essex and Salem Historic. (The Peabody-Essex's new addition was designed by Moshe Safdie, and it's been the talk of the architectural museum world.) All of this is within easy walking distance of the Suzannah Flint House.
