“Great value”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 October 2011

Our first visit to Salem, we were lucky to find this place. The proprietors were very friendly and helpful, the breakfast of fresh fruit and waffles was delicious, and the room was very clean, neat, and spacious. The best B&B we have ever come across and an excellent value. The house is historical yet the bathroom was large and remodeled keeping true to it's historical past while having the conveniances of modern day living. Everything we wanted to see was within walking distance and the off-street parking was a huge bonus. The restaraunts they recommended were fabulous and also within walking distance. Two thumbs up!

Jen, thank you for your kind posting to Trip Advisor. Being considered the best is a great compliment as we certainly strive to make our guests comfortable, informed and provide a fun atmosphere. When it all comes together, nothing beats the B&B experience, especially if you prefer to be immersed in the offerings of your location. Some people only scratch the surface of Salem’s uniqueness, and then there are those that are adventuresome, like yourself, and enjoy the nooks and crannies beyond the tourist sites. And yes, parking is always a consideration in a downtown urban area and we’re glad we can provide this onsite convenience for our guests.
Thanks again,
Ada May & Don

“A home away from home”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 October 2011

We have just left this lovely B&B after a three night stay.

First of all, Ada and Don were delightful. Second, the house is lovely and felt just like home (only completely and utterly spotless!). We enjoyed the breakfasts and we found that everything was on hand both inside the B&B and in Salem itself - which was only a stroll down the street.

We really appreciated all the attention to detail (such as free coffee, chocolates and snacks) and Don dropping us and our very heavy luggage at the local rail station after we checked it!

We loved our time in Salem and our stay at Amelia Payson House.

Thank you for your contribution to Trip Advisor on our behalf. So good to hear you had a great time in Salem and that we provided a much needed comfort station at the end of your day. I hope you had a good train journey and made all the necessary connections. Now that you are on the west coast, I’m sure you are experiencing a much different climate and landscape. Enjoy the Southwest and Vegas. Places that, in many ways, are a far cry from Australia……

“Amelia Payson House-One of the best B&B's in Salem MA”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 October 2011

My wife & I visit Salem MA often, sometimes a dozen times a year & have stayed at most of the Inns & B&B's in the city. Up until this weekend, we had never stayed at the Amelia Payson House. Well I wish we had stayed there sooner- not only is this B&B extremely clean, centrally located to everything (on Winter St.- one of the nicest streets in Salem)...the Innkeeper's Ada & Donald are amazing hosts- we had so many laughs at breakfast- we left feeling like we had known them for years. They are very welcoming & accommodating. I would highly recommend this B&B when visiting the amazing city of Salem- it's one of the nicest we've ever stayed at.

Thank you for taking the time to post your unsolicited review on Trip Advisor. Don and I were glad you had a good time and that we finally got you here, especially after hearing about how many times you’ve been to Salem. Not sure how we missed you over the 27 years, but there are so many great places to stay in town; each one a different adventure for sure, and it’s hard not to have a favorite and just sticking to it. You seem to like us all and that is great……it certainly speaks well of the B&B community and we are a sharing group. We look forward to your next visit, but will understand if you try even another B&B that you may have missed. Just think, before long, all of us will be able to boast, “JCF-RI” slept here…
Again, thanks for the great endorsement of our B&B………..Ada May

“Very Friendly Staff and Convenient Location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 September 2011

I was extremely satisfied with my recent stay in Salem at the Amelia Payson House. It is a charming location near the Salem Common and the staff were extremely friendly. I had to leave very early in the morning (before breakfast is normally served) and they were very considerate to prepare a little breakfast for me and some milk and juice in the bar fridge.

Salem in general is a wonderful town to visit; very easy to get to by commuter train with a lot of GENUINE history to see. The National Park site was great as was the Peabody-Essex Museum. The only sad thing is that the town is over-run with "witch" and "pirate" and "psychic" stuff.

James, thank you for taking the time to post on Trip Advisor. We’re glad we were able to meet your accommodation needs during your visit, and more than happy to provide a little something for breakfast that last morning of an early departure. I will assume you made your bus connection, and the trip home was smooth and uneventful. Again, thank you for your endorsement………Ada May & Don. “The staff”.

“Great value! Great owners! Highly recommend!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 September 2011 via mobile

Staying at Amelia Payson with my sister this past weekend was a great experience. Donald and Ada are such nice people and made us feel at home. The location is just a short walk from all the shopping, and parking is provided at the B&B. Our room was clean and well kept - with wireless Internet and cable tv provided. We were super happy with our experience and will stay here again if we return to Salem!

Thank you for your kind comments on Trip Advisor. Don and I were so glad to hear you had a great time together and that Salem proved to be a nice place to get away from it all and have some sisterly fun. We hope you always make the time to get away, just the two of you, to catch up on your busy lives. And, it’s always great to hear that our B&B suited your accommodation comforts and was a convenient location for you as well. Again, thank you for your posting on Trip Advisor and we look forward to seeing you on another getaway weekend should you decide to make Salem your destination again………Ada May
