My husband and I spent three nights at the Lodge and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. I'm very particular about hotel rooms and was very satisfied! Our deluxe king room was clean, large and nicely decorated. The fireplace, sliding patio door and ceiling fan were extra nice touches. The bathroom was even large with a double sink and double shower. ... The grounds were pretty and very well kept. The restaurant / lounge area was especially nice offering both indoor and patio seating. We didn't eat an evening meal at the restaurant but were very impressed with breakfast each morning and really enjoyed the half-priced appetizers in the bar each evening during happy hour. The shrimp cocktail and mussels were great. We especially enjoyed the company of the lounge waitress named Christy. She provided exceptional service and friendly conversation each evening. ... We would definitely stay at the Lodge again next time we're in Tucson.

We've stayed here a couple of times. The first time we had one of the newer rooms with a larger bathroom and this time we had a older room that needed a lot of work. No fridge, no safe in room, no Internet and a very small bathroom with zero counter space. We will stay there again but will request one of the newer rooms.

Room Tip: Ask questions for the things you want in the room. Don't assume.

“Quaint hotels tend to lack modern conveniences”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

I stayed at this quaint Inn last week in Tucson. It's hard to not enjoy its charm, from the well manicured grounds to the individual feeling of the "rooms." Don't expect your WI-FI to work in your room and allow 10-15 minutes for hot water to reach your bathroom (seriously!), but the staff is very friendly, the little restaurant nice, and the location is hard to beat. You'll think a freight train is coming through when the HVAC kicks on, so earplugs might be a good thing to pack if you're a light sleeper.

Room Tip: The further back into the project, the quieter the room.

Thank you for your review of our hotel. We sincerely appreciate the kind comments. I would assume you stayed in our historical section which we fully admit we are having difficulties with our WiFi service. The thickness of the adobe walls are causing us some problems. We have identified the solution and will be completing this improvement soon. The majority of our hotel is relatively new since 2009 and offers all of the modern conveniences you wrote about. I hope you will give us an opportunity to offer you the full experience of the Lodge on the Desert on a return trip.

“Affordable luxury”

I visit Tucson once a year for the Mineral and Fossil Show and have always stayed in the central hotels where the shows are based - and never enjoyed the experience. I found this hotel on the Internet and tried it out this year. I was very pleasantly surprised and will certainly use the hotel the next time I travel there with my wife. The name suggests that it is "in the desert", it is not. It is in the eastern suburbia of Tucson but it's design does give you the feeling of being away from all that. Nice clean rooms with all the modern facilities, free internet etc. The restaurant and bar are excellent and I found the staff to be really fun and helpful. I nust say it was practical and I really enjoyed my stay.

Room Tip: They offer a $20 upgrade if higher quality rooms are available - well worth the price!

“A Gem!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

We made our reservation via Expedia and when we arrived there was no record of our reservation in the system. We thought we would be turned away but the staff went above and beyond, finding us a room for the night. It was a spacious room with a beautiful view of the mountains and a fireplace. The property is situated in a quiet area off the main road and the grounds are beautifully landscaped and maintained. You feel like you're a guest at a private hacienda! We also had a wonderful meal in the restaurant. I would highly recommend staying here if you are looking for rest and relaxation!

Room Tip: Visit the Tohono Chul Tea Room if you're in Tucson for a couple of days. Lovely setting!
