“lots of problems- poor ownership”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 March 2011

i stayed here due to finding what i thought was a good rate online but there were other cheap motels nearby for even lower rates. the owner of this motel obviously has NOconcern for the customers and is only interested in profit. everything screams CHEAP about this place.
the breakfast was white sandwich bread, generic stale cold cereal and extremely watered-down coffee. there were signs that said you couldn't take anything out of the breakfast room, as if there was anything worth taking out!! and there was a woman there taking room numbers and watching to be sure you didn't try to take white bread or cereal to your room. there was also a tip jar by the bread- what a joke!!!!!
when i called about the rooms and asked if they had a microwave and fridge i was told they did. but when i got to the motel, i was told there was a $15 charge to put them in the room- no rooms had them.
there was a 1990 computer with horrible dial-up speed in the lobby for customer use but noone used it because it was so slow and broken-down.
the furniture and carpetting of course were dirty.
the grounds are dismal- trash all over, dead grass.
they rent to prostitutes- i was propositioned twice and saw prostitutes being picked up in the parking lot.
the front desk people were polite but couldn't provide anything due to the cheap owner.
adjoining rooms meant you could easily hear people next door.
overall a lousy place and higher priced than similar rundown motels in tucson.

“Horrible and scarey”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 March 2011

We booked on line, it was not the cheapest by far but the location looked good to us out of towners. At about 10pm a large party formed outside our door on the patio, It was loud and there was a lot of profanity. It was scarey, lots of drinking and beer cans thrown around. Management came and chased them away but they came back at 1am after the manager had left for the night. The loud party continued until 4am. We repeatedly called the front desk but the guy at the desk said he could do nothing, he would not leave the lobby and could not authorize our move to another room.
We told him we were going to call the police but he said he would do it. An hour later he assured us the police were on the way and again at 4am when the party of 13 continued he admitted he did not call the police but now would. The police came immediately and broke up the party in minutes. The guy at the lobby said there would be no charge for the room but the following morning at checkout the manager said the room charge would be only reduced in half and said he was going to fire the employee that said we would not be charged. We learned this is an independently owned motel and they do not have to follow Howard Johnson policies. We are now skeptical about staying at another Howard Johnsons or chosing another motel from the Wyndam website.

“Don't walk, run from this place!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 February 2011

Our room was a smoking room on the second floor. The grounds were not kept well (broken glass). The room needed a paint job. The remote didn't work well. The bed was soso. There was loud music playing nearby. BUT the worst was the toilet! It was one of those kinds that an airport has - really noisy flush.
We were going to stay one night but went home after 2 hours in this room. We live a few hours away.
We didn't get any sort of discount or reimbursement from the front desk.

“Appalling dump at any price...”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 February 2011

My wife and I checked in to the Howard Johnson Downtown in Tucson for a one-night stay. The room had been booked and credit card billed or we would have gone to another location. We should have anyway.
The motel was absolutely filthy. We came a few days after the end of the Tucson Gem and Mineral show and the facility was still surrounded by tents used by show vendors. Trucks were parked lengthwise in the parking area. The corridors were strewn with refuse, the motel looked like a skidrow tenement. We went to dinner, deciding we could deal with a one night stay. When we returned at 9pm, groups of workers were lingering outside their rooms drinking beer. We locked the door and departed at 6AM sharp.
A call to Howard Johnson's customer service was about as useful as explaining the problem to a deaf cat. A call to American Airline's booking agency provided sympathy but nothing else.
Recommendation: don't stay at a HoJo. This ain't your father's Howard Johnson Motel.

“Better than average rooms”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 October 2010

I came here after spending the previous night at an extended stay hotel (Crossland) that came complete with prostitutes, drug dealers and a shooting. So maybe my standards were low but...

Extra large rooms, minifridge, good selection of TV channels...I liked the inside. The property itself was pretty dreary and beat up, the pool a joke...

Decent budget hotel and budget prices with above average rooms.
