“Casino is a Health Hazard”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 December 2011

The hotel is clean and fairly quiet. Large, spacious rooms. Very comfortable. Junior staff is friendly. Cons: Parking lot sweeping in the middle of the night kept me awake. Casino is filthy with cigarette smoke. Not sure why the smoking is allowed by city or state officials. You wouldn't believe it until you saw how polluted the air is. Forget the restaurants. The food tastes like cigarettes. Good experience if you avoid the casino.

“Great place to stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 December 2011

We stayed 3 nights here and it is a great place to stay. The staff are very friendly, the rooms are large and the Steak House is fantastic. We also really liked the special lobby of the casino that provided excellent information and displays about the Tohono O'Odham tribe that owns the hotel and casino.

“Another Free Room”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 November 2011

Desert DIamond is the older of the 2 Tucson Casino Hotels, and it's showing it's age. The hotel is nice, comfortable, and with the players club membership, FREE. We've stayed here about 7 times on the free, which helps make a 2 hour drive worthwhile. Monsoon Night club for dancing, (Haven't been), a Steak House (Never been), The buffet is allright, but a lot of the food is generic (Love the Prime Rib), the casino also has a little station open 24 hours, which serves the basics (Good quick food). The Casino floor is pretty big, with a lot of different choices, to include poker, blackjack and a host of other card games including BINGO. Hotel has a continental breakfast, which features decent wake-up grub, but not really a meal. The coffee shop features decent coffee, and for 2 hours in the morning, prices are half. Pool seems nice (Not my thing), a conference center, gift shop etc... Don't stray far from the casino, you're in South Tucson (Not the nicest neighborhood), but casino is plenty safe.

Room Tip: Ask for a balcony if you're a smoker, rooms are non-smoking.

“Nice property, friendly staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 October 2011

Spent 1 night here while traveling AZ, appears to be a fairly new property. Hotel staff were friendly and efficient, no issues with room either. Room was very large (a premium king with balcony). Separate shower and tub, view of desert from the tub, kinda unique. Small but very nice pool facility. Free wifi, comfortable bedding, flat screen, clean room. Nice casino, a bit smoky, but not too bad. Buffet was not too good the night we were there (friday night), it was a mexican food buffet. Mostly tacos, taco salads, tamales and soups. Food did not taste great and the appearance of the buffet was unappetizing, cost $9 per person. People who dined at their steak restaurant said it was good.
Easy access to I-10 and Tucson airport.

Room Tip: Book a Diamond Club rate online. if you dont have their Diamond Card, hit the casino first, get one...

“Exceeded expectations, a few bumps”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 October 2011

Stayed for the weekend, and made reservations through their website. They have some good deals if you sign up for their casino card, which takes 5 minutes. Had a really nice kng room on the 4th floor. We've learned to stay on upper floors in any casino because there is always someone walking around regardless of the time. If you are a light sleeper, get a room far from the elevators, as this area is noisy, especially if there is a wedding or event going on. The guests seem to hang out and yak by the elevators. Room had a nice balconey and view, although the door was hard to open. Bed and pillows were comfortable. Room had a fridge, but no microwave. The air conditioner was way to noisy to leave on overnight. The property location is a bit cheesy, but the hotel, conference center and Casino are very nice and well decorated. The food options are adequate. There is a continental breakfast that has a lot of choices, but ends at 9:00, so if you want to sleep late, you'll need other options. Full Breakfast is limited to the food court in the casino, which is a little slow, but good quality food and several choices. The upper end steak house, which is actually in the casino, was very good and had many choices and a nice wine list. The hotel itself only has a coffee bar, the breakfast, and vending for food, but the casino is a short, indoor walk, and even though smoking is allowed in most of the casino, the air was not bad, even when it was really busy. There is a nice non-smoking area with a lot of gaming choices as well. We would go back anytime.

Room Tip: Upper floors away from the elevators are best.
