“Best complementary breakfast ever in delightful surroundings!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 February 2012

The rooms and service were excellent and similar to most of the HIE Hotels we've stayed in, but the outstanding part of this stay was the really good free hot breakfast. The breakfast area was spacious, divided into areas for different types of seating (near TV or fireplace, for example), and the fare was varied and well made. Felt like a much more expensive buffet. I also really enjoyed the decor of both the large and welcoming lobby area with it's fireplace and the bright, colorful breakfast room, with doors to the patio and fountain area for eating outdoors if you wanted. ( I would recommend the owners capitalize on the inviting patio area with more tables and shade umbrellas.)
The location is very good as well, for shopping nearby and sightseeing in Tucson, but it really hit the mark for me with the decor and breakfast offerings.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view of the Catalina Foothills.

“New Year's Eve 2012”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 January 2012

We decided to stay here to avoid the drive after a New year's eve party. We had 3 kids with us - they are 18, 11 and 8. We selected the room with 2 queens and a sofabed. It was plenty of room. Refrigerator, Microwave, Ironing board, safe, etc. Everything you need is available. I didn't have breakfast, but it was available. Pool is heated and Jacuzzi is really nice. The only bad thing about this hotel is that there is no view what-so-ever. There is a Walmart and Best Buy across the street and the Tucson Mall is a block and a half away. All necessary shopping/restaurants are less than a mile away.

Overall - we all liked it, very clean.

“Not the best but certainly not the worst.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 January 2012

The pros:

Fantastic location!
Breakfast is exceptional; in addition to the standard "Express" breakfast, this hotel features chorizo, tortillas, and refried beans so that you can experience some local flair.
Average price (we paid $90 for the night).
Staff was very friendly and accommodating.

The cons:

Stains on bathroom linens.
Stains on hallway carpets.
No flatscreen TV - big clunky old CR TV.
Bed was VERY hard.
Certain things in the lobby and elevator area in disrepair.

Overall, I felt like this property had a lot of potential. On the surface, the lobby was quite beautiful but when you looked a little closer, certain aspects seemed a little run down. I think I was most disappointed in the bed which was hard as a board and the stains on our bathroom linens. I'm a very loyal Holiday Inn guest so I expect a great experience every time I stay. While this wasn't a bad experience, I just didn't feel rested or as comfortable as I normally do when staying with this brand.

“An OK place to stay in Tucson”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 January 2012

We have stayed at many Holiday Inn Express establishments... most of which have been great. This one was ok. It was unfortunate that we had "stompers" residing above us, who stomped the entire night (not sure what they were doing). I would suggest that the best way to avoid stompers is to stay at the very top floor. The other problem was the bathroom was not very clean. Breakfast was very good and there was a variety of different foods available. There was a shopping centre across that road and that was very convenient.

“Great value!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 August 2011

We thought this property was an exceptional value for the money--friendly, helpful front desk staff, spotless, well-maintained rooms which were large enough to "hang out" in (with a desk, sofa, coffee table set up in a separate alcove from the bed area). The pillows and bedding were good quality (TV a little outdated, but worked well and the picture quality was fine). Bathrooms a bit small, but plenty of good towels and well-stocked with grooming product. The breakfast room, which serves a reasonably complete buffet breakfast, was a bit of a zoo (you know how people get when confronted with free food!). We were in town for a very specific purpose--to help our daughter move in to her UofA housing--so did not utilize the pool or gym facilities, although both, particularly the gym, looked nicely maintained and good sized with plenty of equipment. The area around the hotel is also good, with lots of shopping and restaurants. We will make this our "place to stay" when visiting our daughter over the next 3 years.
