“The Westin Providence PROVIDES it all.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

Excellent, is the word that I can use to describe my stay at The Westin in Providence Rhode Island. WOW. My husband and I stayed 7 days and we found everything we needed without even reaching out into the streets. The food, pharmacy, mall, parking everything in one location. How fantastic especially when the road is full of snow. The Hotel is FANTASTIC. The staff extremely courteous. The hotel is "first class" standard.

The rooms are very large, comfortable and clean. We left our stuff out and everything was intact, nothing missing etc. A fantastic place to stay. The skywalk takes you from your room straight to the mall, to the conference rooms etc etc without having to be out in the streets. Everything is in one location yet you don't feel cramped as if you are in one place. A great all inclusive idea to get a great deal, it almost seemed like "Pay for one [i.e. hotel] and get the others free". No taxi's to drop off your shopping, for everything was in one location. However, transport to other states were so easy. The buses to e.g. New York was waling distance from the Westin even in heavy snow. It was an easy very near walk.

Room Tip: Don't worry about your rooms. All are good.

“Nice hotel, but lacking 21st century basics”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2012

Very friendly staff, clean, decent size rooms......but lacking what I find in almost every other hotel. There was no room refrigerator or microwave, and worst of all there's a $10/night charge for room internet access. Come on, Westin! Get with the times. Charging for room internet access went out years ago for the rest of the industry.

“Reservation NIGHTMARE - 1 of 2 - as I will add an additional review after My stay”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

A group I belong to holds an annual convention at the Westin Hotel in Providence. My experience with them last year was marginal to par, but as I understand it., the group is under contract, and thus was obligated to return to them this year as well.

As this is an event that we do not want to miss, and being unfamiliar with the Providence area, we again decided to book at the Westin, where the event is being held. despite that the costs for doing so were higher than the surrounding hotels, even with the group discount, despite the fact that we book one entire tower with the group, and overflow reservations take much of the hotel as well as much of the surrounding hotel availability once the Westin is full.

So, all that said, we made our pre-reservation through the group link, all went well. The room was charged as expected and we were on our way... but then the nightmare started... About a week later, an Authorization Hold appeared on my bank account (and the accounts of every other guest that I know who is attending and pre-registered). After SEVERAL calls to the Westin, we were advised that this was an accounting error and that the Authorization would be released, but we had to call our banks and then the Westin, and get the information to them on how to do it with our individual banks.. After this hassle was complete, and the Authorization was released.. we all breathed a sigh of relief and went about our days, only to wake up the next morning and find that the Westin has submitted a 2nd FULL charge for the room the night before. Again, more calls to the Westin, again, more - "we are so surprised", and "this is so unusual... then only to advise me that they only saw ONE charge on My account, and them requesting to call My bank and verify what I was saying... Come to discover, the accounting department at the Westin was FULLY AWARE that a refund had been done 3 days earlier, (which was 2 days prior to the "authorization" fiasco) by mistake, and a recharge was going to occur. The refund did not process until the next day for Me, and several days later for others, and only, if someone actually called to inquire about it. So apparently, someone on staff knew that their was an issue, and the infomration that was provided to us was incomplete at best, inaccurate at worst. I spoke directly to the manager who indicated that he had not gotten any calls on the charging issue, although I personally know several who had spoken to him, as it was one of them who gave me his contact information.

All said, after much aggravation, the money was refunded, but was done so with only the barest minimum of apologies. Nothing else was offerred, despite that the error impacted many many people, some who had to deal with a triple hit if they did not realize the authorization was still there on top of the double charge, prior to the refund clearing their accounts. Many people sufferred over limit charges, overdraft charges on their accounts, etc. All which will most likely be resolved, but for their time and aggravation, for the stress and headache the Westin simply says - well,. no one has suggested we offer anything so.......

My last review was of a Sheraton, another Starwood Property, which was an abysmal experience - and so my advice of staying clear of the Sheraton name now extends to ALL Starwood properties - I do hope that the reviews I have read of the west tower being worn and sub par quality wise are overstated. because that is where we will be staying... :( I will note, that we were able to request a refridgerator be put in our room (although I was completely amazed that one is not included given the level of the hotel) I just hope given what I remember of the room size last year - we can actually walk around it once it is in..

Will write more after My stay - hopefully, it will be a positive enough experience to improve my view,

Room Tip: If you book here - make sure you check your statements to make sure you dont receive multiple charge...

Thank you for submitting a review and comments regarding the reservation and advance payment process with the Westin Providence. I apologize for the difficulties you experienced, we are continuing to research the systems processes that caused the authorization process to recharge accounts. I am glad that it has been corrected and accounts returned to proper status. I will use your comments with our team to improve the process and prevent future occurrences. My name is Mark Brown and as General Manager I appreciate the time you took to let us know how we are doing. We look forward to a successful weekend with your organization. Thanks so much.

“Average, just average”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 January 2012

As other reviewers have noted, this hotel seems worn. It's not terrible, but not what I expect from Westin. The rooms are on par with an 8-10 year old Marriott or Hilton and the food is just OK. I had no service issues but I just expect more "wow" from Westin. I would return here only if the price is below about $150/night.

“Comfortable and Convenient”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 January 2012

I stayed at the Westin recently with my husband for a weekend trip. The room was ready when we checked in at 2:00pm. It was clean and cozy. The bed was very comfortable, with lots of pillows! The bathroom was clean and stocked with decent bath products. The towels were very soft and the shower had a dual-head, which felt great. It is not a luxurious hotel, so if that's what you're looking for, I wouldn't stay here. It is right in the middle of downtown, connected to the Providence Place Mall by a bridge, so in the winter, you don't even have to put on a coat to go shopping or to dinner in the many restaurants at the mall. We enjoyed our stay, and would stay again.
