I stayed at the Hotel Providence for two nights for a conference in Rhode Island. I had previously only booked one night and needed another. The Hotel was full and the desk staff told me to try back just before my reservation. I did and still no luck. Later I got an email from Desk staff Derek and Jeff, they found a room for me which was suite which was a delightful upgrade at no extra charge. When I arrived they treated me like royalty. I was impressed with their follow-up. My suite was called The Herman Melville suite was spacious and comfortable, very clean with an extremely comfortable bed. We had a business dinner at the Hotel restaurant, "Aspire" which was an upscale place. For the money, you are better off eating somewhere else foodwise, I didn't think the food was all that great but the drinks were really good. The staff of "Aspire" was very friendly and attentive. While we were eating the general manger visited our table. I had a great time at Hotel Providence.

All services provided by the hotel are done with professional courtesy and a smile. Our room was a bit small but the furnishings were lovely. For any guests with allergies, please be aware that they allow dogs in all of their rooms. Bar and restaurant were superb. The location couldn't be better, you can walk everywhere.

The Hotel Providence is in a great central location in Providence, RI. I selected this hotel because of the reviews on Trip Advisor. As usual, the posters did not steer me wrong.

The staff and bellhop were friendly and informative. The hotel was very nice. Don’t expect hip and swank like the W, it’s more like a classy, elegant stately mansion that is still comfortable and unpretentious. The room seems to have been recently renovated. It has a gorgeous bathroom with marble shower and gorgeous touches. I walked into my suite and just smiled. The bed was comfortable and just the right amount of firmness.

There were only two negatives. There is almost no parking available within the vicinity of the hotel, so valet parking is basically a requirement. It is a nice convenience and calling for your car when needed is definitely an advantage, but it is pricey - $25/day. The other negative has nothing to do with the hotel. Promptly at 8:00 a.m., the church bells start ringing. I was expecting to sleep in a little longer than 8 am, but unfortunately it’s not a sound you can avoid. They also ring on the half hour for a while and then hourly until night. The sounds of the bells are beautiful. The hotel book even includes the history of the church and it’s bells. It’s funny to me that I don’t remember reading any comments about the ringing church bells in any of the reviews I read about this hotel. My room was right next to the church, overlooking the hotel restaurant’s outdoor patio. Thinking a room a little farther away would help with the bells, they switched me to a room on the opposite side of the hotel. Unfortunately, the room was much smaller (I should have kept my mouth shut! LOL), but still nice. The move didn’t help, I could still hear the bells. ☺

When I was initially driving to the hotel I was wondering – “Where the heck is this hotel?” because some of the area I passed seemed run down. The hotel itself is a beautiful historic building and during the day it is quite nice to walk around in the area and see the locale.

Internet access was through an Ethernet cord because their wireless access did not work while I there. Because I had never been to the Northeast, Providence was centrally located to all the places I wanted to visit, i.e. Boston, Salem, Newport, CT, NH. I would stay here again in a heartbeat and just bring my ear plugs the next time.

I got $144/night at AAA rate compared to higher rates at Hilton and Westin. From trip advisor I thought I'd give this boutique hotel a try. I called ahead and asked for quiet room. Was put on 7th floor (only a few rooms up here) across from the church. Steeple has bells that bong every 15 minutes in early evening. They stop around 9. Area has some bars and stuff and there were people on the street making alot of noise at 1:30am - they woke me up all the way up on the 7th floor. I heard a police siren and then things were quiet again. Area looks like it gets some shady stuff later at night but the staff is very good and I felt safe with the front desk right by the entrance. Valet parking is only parking option and $25 is pricy, but the valet has been quiet efficient. My bed is _wonderful_. It's a queen bed, which is fine for one person, and has that firm mattress with pillow top that you just sink into. WIFI in room is great, once you figure out which of all the networks to connect to . Heat and air in the room are excellent - quiet and they do the job well. There goes the church bong again - starting at 8am so forget sleeping between 8am and 9pm. The last time I was in Prov. I stayed at the Hilton. To compare - Hilton is definitely quieter - it is on the edge of downtown not in thick of things. I like my room here better - the biggest difference was the annoying perfume smell throughout the Hilton compared to the wonderfully odorless Hotel Providence. Furniture and finishings are a step above the Hilton. I have not ordered food yet at Hotel P so I can not compare room services. Staff here seems quite attentive.

I'd probably stay here again due to the smell issue at the Hilton and the good price i got at Hotel P, but I might make more use of the earplugs next time. If you are a business traveller, I'd also suggest to avoid Hotel P on a weekend night or even a thursday due to noise from bar/club patrons and so forth nearby.

Fitness center is in basement has good collection of equipment. It is a lower end commercial product not the precor/lifefitness stuff, but it still gets the job done. My biggest complaint is the elliptical stops at < 30rmp without much accuracy so you can not use it on high resistance at a slower pace, which somewhat limits the tunes you can workout to, but
this is a small issue.

During the Waterfire, this was the best value I found. For about $50 less than the Westin and Biltmore, you just had to walk an extra 2 blocks to get to the Waterfire festivities. The staff is polite, professional and helpful. While the decor is a diluted version of what you'll find in a trendy Manhattan swanky hotel, it's a clean, pleasant place. Overall, a pleasant experience. (And to another reviewer's point: there is no minibar, few bottles of soap to steal, the lukewarm water and only one bathrobe.) However, its a fantastic location for Waterfire and I'd highly recommend it as you won't need to drive around once you've parked at the hotel.

While the hotel is nice inside and appears to be on a quaint street, I would not walk alone at night by yourself. The area can be a bit sketchy.

Parking does cost about $25 extra, but you'll find that at the other hotels in the area also. There is also a decent restaurant, Aspire, downstairs. A bit on the pricey side for small portions, but the food was serviceable.
